  • Panasonic PT-VMZ50U vertical offset

Trying to understand Projector Central's description of vertical offset for this PT-VMZ50U.

    It reads:
At this throw distance, with a centered image, the projected image can be shifted an additional 39″ down from the bottom, 28″ over from the right, and 28″ over from the left edge of the image using the projector's lens shift capability.

So does this mean that with a ceiling mount, I can move the projector up to 39" closer to the ceiling at this throw distance? The wording reads very weird.

Lens shift does not involve moving the actual projector. Lens shift involves moving the lens around within the projector while leaving the projector in the same spot.

I've never used lens shift before, so I won't claim to be any sort of expert with it. But what is your ceiling height and screen size?

I think the OP was asking if he can change the position of the projector and leave the image in the same place. Rather than the other way round. Which I'm assuming he should be able to do?

Lens shift allows you the flexibility to mount (move) the projector to a spot different from its default vertical and/or horizontal position. You then use lens shift to "move" the image to fit the center of the screen without sacrificing image quality, like you do with keystone correction.

A lot of times lens shift is both +/-, meaning you can shift the image in either direction (for vertical = up or down).

This projector only does up to +44% vertical. Its default placement is exactly mid screen. I would expect that means I can place the projector lower in relation to the screen and shift the image up. Or in my case, mount the projector upside down on the ceiling and shift the image down.

Projector Central's language is just a little weird, because it says "image can be shifted an additional 39″ down from the bottom". So if upside down, do they consider the bottom the top? I think they do, but not sure.

Ok I see what you're asking now. It's a two-way street in that lens shift allows you to move the image around without moving the projector, or, as you put it, move the projector around while still keeping the image in the same spot.

Best I can tell from the language that they give, I do believe that you are interpreting it correctly. So you should be able to ceiling mount and then shift the picture down to fit your screen. I've never used a projector with the default location in the middle of the screen like that. But it sounds to me like you are correct.

Yeah, this is the first one I've come across like that. All of the Optomas that I've been looking at, usually have a default position more equal to the top/bottom edge of the image.

Were you able to make this projector work with the ceiling mount and and the adjustments? Looking at doing something similar.
