Alright, so I took the plunge and invested a pile of money into building what is in my opinion, one of the nicest home simulator builds money can buy. Sunday, I had the first foursome round since building it, my normal IRL Sunday group coming over to play inside golf as the outside temps in Maine are plummeting and the remaining days are numbered. What I ran into was a disappointing issue where progressively the graphics performance of FSX 2020 slowed more and more as the round went on, to the point where conservatively I'd estimate that the shot animation took 3-4 times as long to play out, and the round took close to 6 hours, with "fast putt" turned on.
Major note- this was a "no expense spared" build. So, my PC absolutely positively should not be the bottleneck running FSX 2020's 1990's texture graphics, even in 4k. It should be noted- running the game in 1080p would run smooth as butter, but full screen 4k mode progressively slowed down as play went on. My setup:
QCQ launch monitor
BenQ LK 953ST native 4K/60hz projector
Enclosure is a Carls Pro with Carl's Premium impact screen (obviously no impact on the graphics quality, but I wanted to paint the mental picture a bit.)
PC: custom build, no expenses bared best of the best circa late 2019 PC:
Intel i9-9900K processor, stable overclock locked in at 5.0 GHZ, all 8 cores. Stable overclock achieved via Asus Z390 motherboard and Corsair liquid cooler, full ATX case with three full size ventilation fans
ASUS ROG Strix 2080 TI OC graphics card- this is the binned (hand selected out of a batch of silicon chips for top overclocking performance) factory overclock model running a stable overclock
32 GB DDR4 3200 MHZ memory
Windows 10 pro
Corsair HX850I power supply
Samsun 970 EVO SSD
Long and the short- this can play any 2020 AAA title maxed out and look smooth doing it. Yet it struggles with FSX 2020 at 4k.
Hoping for some help from those who know more than me about this type of thing!
Thanks,
Bob
