    Some observations.

I'm going on years and thought I would share some observations. It's a good uniit similar to the skytrak but with good putting. It gives a robust number of metrics including club data', spin and spin axis. It's a hybrid design with radar and IR stereo high speed camera. It is a very good unit. It does play odd though, ball speed is radar, but spin and spin axis are optical. Optical spin is measured by tracking ball logo that is not curved or round. It likes retangular lines around ball circumference.

WhatI l found playing is that for drives and most shots, allign the logo vertical up and down facing the unit cameras. This gives the best spin and ball flight.

The second tip are wedges. With TGC2019, if your within 40 yards, switch to lob wedge chip. This unit really has issues with wedge play, how ever lobwedge chip is pure optical and gives good results. I will use a pitch wedge for all wedge shots with good results.

The big issue with this unit is the spin axis. It is optically measured, but it can exaggerate that angle. That can give you a bad game if you don't hit straight shots. It does measure club data like club speed and optically gives face, path, an most of everything, aoa, launch angle, etc. Given all that, it should be a remarkable device. It is except for the issue of misreads. It seems to use the front radar to signal a get ready and uses sound as a trigger to read the IR cameras. It processes the data using an on board ARM processor and feeds the data over a Bluetooth serial link (via COM 5. Because of the audio trigger, external noise can really mess measurements. It is the main sourse of misreads.

We all hit fat shots on occasion many times on purpose like wedge shots out of sand, flop shots can prematurely trigger the unit giving a null read or misread. Radar has to be triggered by the club motion so the ES16 Tour plus will misread slow wedges and chips. It has problems a 40yards. To counter this use the pure optical mode of Lobwedge chip, and pitch wedge.
The audio trigger can affect other clubs like fairway woods, less so with hybrid and irons.
Putting is excellent and feels pretty good.

Very good summary on the ES Tour plus and I totally agree with you on all the points. It is a finicky unit but great advice that may help folks with this device.

Thanks Bubba,. Yeah it's not a bad device, but definitely past it's prime given units like the R10 or the MLM2PRO. Still a very good unit for club data and ball speed. I don't trust it's spin. Good unit to pick up used. It would be cool if ES did a modern refresh of this unit.
