  • ES Tour Plus : can't use it, LED is blinking continuously... Please Help!

    Hi guys,

i've an ES Tour Plus (2nd hand) for 2 days now, but i can't use it

I can appair it with my PC (btw it appears as "ES16 Audio" in windows bluetooth devices), launch ESGolf, connect to it :

Click image for larger version Name:	IMG_20240103_153132_01.jpg Views:	21 Size:	68.5 KB ID:	399503

Problem comes from the unit : as soon as i power it, the LED starts to continuously blink red then green in regular rythm :

I've sent an email to ES but i still waiting their answer, so i'm coming to you guys for help!

What the blinking LED means ?

"hard reset" the unit : I've read somewhere in this forum it's in the battery location. Here I only see a small round black sticker with a little hole under. Is it here ? I need to remove the sticker and push in the hole ?

I really don't want to break something

I'm so sad to have the unit standing right here and not being able to have fun with it ...

    Thanks in advance !

    UPDATE

Jason from ES wrote me this :

"We appreciate you purchasing our ES16TP!
The blinking red and green LEDs is a new and normal feature we have added with the firmware version 179.
Its purpose is to indicate to the user that the launch monitor is searching for the logo of the ball. Once locked on, the LED will turn green."

    Happy to know that!
He didn't tell me how to do hard-reset, but maybe now i don't need this...

I'm asking because when i do the calibration process (with the calibration mat) the 20ish step always end as "000 ... cal1/2".
So maybe a hard reset can solve this ?

It sounds about right. On Windows 10, when I look at Devices and Printers, the ES16 shows up as a Multimedia Device (entertainment device) and as a Bluetooth peripheral. If I right-click the ES16 and select properties>Hardware it shows ES16 Type Bluetooth, Standard Serial over Bluetooth link (com7), and Wireless iAP. What should happen if this unit was upgraded to the ES Tour Plus V2, is when you turn it on, it will start with a Red light, and after a few seconds, it will start flashing between Red and Green. The flashing Red/Green means it searching for a ball. The next step is to place a ball, with a logo towards the window (toward the white "golf swing guy"). It likes straight ball logos, so range balls with double-line markings are perfect. If it sees the ball, the LED will turn solid green. What it is doing during the red/green flashing LED, is strobing the camera's IR LED lighting, taking pictures, and looking for something to lock onto. With a ball in place and logo seen by the camera, it shouldn't take more than 5-10 seconds to switch. It should lock right on in seconds if you use one of the new special balls included with the upgrade. (Ask the guy you bought it from if he didn't send them with the unit or call ES). By the way, there is a specific location where the ball needs to be placed to be found, that is 9 to 10 inches from the unit's lead foot, lead corner. (See your calibration sheet).

If it absolutely refuses to see the ball, I would try two things. One, clean the black plastic window with Windex and a micro-fiber cloth. Then start looking at performing a calibration. It may be the cameras got bumped out of alignment in shipping. Your worst case would be if the previous owner had a bad swing and hit the unit with a club or a badly shanked ball (my brother did the latter) breaking the camera or something internal. If I understand, they have a flat-rate $99 repair policy in place so just call them if you just can't get it to work (it does take a couple of weeks).

As far as a hard reset, I'm not sure how that is done. I would check to see if they have a YouTube video or something like that available. I have not calibrated my unit since the upgrade so I'm not even sure if the steps are the same. Anyway, good luck.

        Thanks for your explanations Chuck!

Meanwhile, i succeded to make it work! )
Knowing the meaning of the blinking LEDs, I carefully took my time to make the LED go green.
I finally found that it's about light!
When i placed the unit just under the spot, it succeded to go green easily in less than 5 sec )

With E6 connect Demo I did few chips & putt, it was so fun!!
my first experience with a golf sim

        Now i have 2 (not-so) problems :

1 : calibration still failing everytime. I've ordered another light, i'll see if that solve that. Trajectories in E6 looks good to me like that.
2 : using ESGolf on my android device : when i select the E16 in the app, i have the message "connecting.." "connected..." "connecting.." ... sometimes with a beep . But that's a plus for me as i'm using my computer

glad to hear you found a solution. It's interesting that you need external lighting. It should be lighting the ball with the infrared LEDs. You may be able to see those with a phones camera. But cool you got it working.
