  • Putting analysis with ES TOUR PLUS

    Hello,
New in this forum. Thanks for the usefull piece of advices found here. I am about to buy a second hand ES TOUR+.
Still have one question : do we need an external software to make putting analysis with ES TOUR+ (club path, square head...) ? All what I found is mentionning E6 or TGC (but I am not going to use software else than ES Range).
I tried to reach out Ernest Sports (Messenger, Instagram, e-mail) but non answer yet ! Not a very responsive company.

Second question : is there something I need to take care of with a second hand device ?

    Best regards

Putting on an ES-Tour-pro. It works, BUT it's crap. First, for any clubs, understand that the ES16 uses an audio trigger to begin optical tracking of the initial ball motion. It works oK until it doesn't. Putting is one where it doesn't. Newer "Soft" putters with the plastic insets can almost be silent at impact and create a no-read. Worse, it seems that in putting mode, it amplifies sound and reports ball speed based on the amplitude of the sound! Just yell "BANG!" when tapping a 5-foot putt. The ball will skyrocket. Even more. You need a putter that makes noise on impact to achieve good results. So no plastic inlays. The noisier the better for putting. Just turn down all background noise and refrain from yelling "BANG!" at contact :-), and it will work as well as the big-league sims for putting. (Now, why ES decided to use the amplitude of a putt's sound as a factor in the putt's ball speed is beyond me.)

Thank you very much for your reply Mandrin.
So I would have to buy a new putter just to be used for the ES T+ practice (mine has a soft insert).
      Have a nice day

Well, it may be even worse with putting. Since they are using an audio amplitude based on the impact of the putted ball to create ball speed, to recreate the calibration, you would need to know the same make and brand of putter used for the calibration. If I made a wish, it would be that all LM manufacturers calibrate their LMs using the same clubs, down to the putter and include that in their specifications. Like; "Calibrated with ...". In addition, I wish Simulation software would include a 'mat stimp matching' algorithm, which would match your mat (local) stimp to the game (game) stimp. So, given all the unknowns on putting, I wouldn't spend a lot of money on a putter to use an ES16 Tp LM.
