I personally think that, while somewhat arbitrary, the decision to grandfather recent clients but not everyone is a reasonable, and very fair, decision. They are, after all, a business that has to make money. Customers who bought in 2018 (yes, I'm one of them) would think "hey, wtf I just bought this... why do I have to pay again?". If you've had the product for more than a year, then you've had good use, plus you can either stay with what you have, or pay an upgrade fee. Hey, they could have said 3 months.... they could have said everyone has to pay the upgrade... IMHO a year is pretty darn fair. Plus they added an extra possibility for forum and tour users/players. I think that's pretty cool

Hooli I certainly didn't mean to come across as heartless to those who miss the cutoff. tt especially bites if you're just outside the range. I still think they're being very fair. Heck, if I were you, i'd reach out to them and make your case. If any company would actually listen, it's them. Good luck!

It wouldn't be 1000 to upgrade. This is from their website
SkyTrak users will receive upgrade information from Skytrak directly when SkyTrak releases TGC 2019.
If you're not eligible for a free FULL LICENSE upgrade you can purchase the TGC2019 for Simulators upgrade at a discounted price of EURO 345. The upgrade package will allow you to use both TGC for Simulators and TGC2019 for Simulators.

gnomike, I didn't take it that way. In fact, I agree with you - they are a business and they need to make money otherwise it's a hobby. I just wouldn't see the value in upgrading right away.
That said, I missed the upgrade fee that bs531 has pointed out. While ~$550 in my currency is a better deal than the full price, that would still mean I've spent more than $1600 in two years on the TGC software and, for me, I'm not sure it would be worth it. I am happy with the current version of TGC.

I purchased the promo; it seemed to be for the full software upgrade. It was cheaper than I thought. As I haven’t played any tour stuff I know I wouldn’t get a free upgrade. Will be interesting to see how it lays on top of lifetime membership for tgc.

Demo at the PGA show, create more buzz there, then release right after? That would be sweet... Funny... not so long ago I would have said I didn't care much... but the closer it gets the more I feel like a kid at Christmas lol

Sorry, been hiding under a rock for a while, but gone back 3 pages and can't find upgrade price details. Also haven't had an email, which is a little poor given I've paid a lifetime membership, and might be missing a possible discount right now. Is that how people get notified, or is it hanging around the forums that gets you in the know?

It is in the alpha testing post: https://golfsimulatorforum.com/forum...-alpha-testing
The direct link to the freeupgrade application is: https://tgcsim.com/upgraderequest/

To date, no one has said anything about being notified. I'm sure as soon as they start letting ppl know they have been upgraded, someone will sing here. Here is the link to the upgrade pre-order page for your information

My perspective - Do I like free stuff - sure. Do I hope to get a free upgrade to tgc2019 from tgc - yes. Do I expect it - No. Now, paying 1000 again would be unfair because this is an upgrade..I think they said those not getting a free upgrade are getting 30% off the upgrade price of 750 - which is what about 500 bucks for the upgrade...that sound about right to me.
They are really the only game in town - Jack left, E6 is what 1800 plus add another 1000 for courses. The others I do not think are that great. If I am missing any let me know.

If you pre order you don't have to pay the 750 either. That's what I did even though I an a active member on here and a TGC tour player winter and summer. Bu I think it's more then fair that they get some money for the work they have done, are doing and the great support. Don't get me wrong, I don't have money to give away but deserved is deserved.Last edited by Sascha1818; 01-13-2019, 12:18 PM.

When I use my projector, sometimes the shadows are super dark and look really bad. It would be really cool if you can modify the brightness or contrast of shadows or the game in general.
I use these plugins and settings (for my current monitor, may tweak when running the sim version on the projector).
Plugin = Colourfulness
colourfulness = 0.150
lim_luma = 0.500
Plugin = FakeHDR
Power = 1.220
Radius 1 = 0.720
Radius 2 = 0.790
Other plugins that may help, I have not found a need to use them for TGC2019 but do use them in other games:
Levels
Clarity
Vibrance

Reshade is pretty easy to install. Once you add it to a game, you hit SHIFT-F2 to open the Reshade menu. You can then tweak settings and see the result in real time in the game.
I have a hotkey (tilde ~), set to enable/disable reshade. This makes it easy to toggle reshade on and off, without having to open the whole reshade menu. Its useful when trying to dial in settings and want to only see the game on your monitor without it being half covered in Reshade menus.

I'm pretty bummed to hear that TGC2019 isn't the vibrant sunny day of my fantasies. I was under the impression the lighting was all good. Ok, Im onto Reshading! But I don't have a monitor, hopefully working off the projector only will be ok.

The game looks OK, its just not great (compared to other modern PC games)
During the beta testing for TGC 2019 (the PC version, not the sim version), I posted some before/after screenshots with Reshade. One of the HB Studio guys contacted me via their forum and asked for the settings, said they wanted to improve the look of the game. I had high hopes they would make changes, but they must have run out of time because nothing improved between the beta and now.

10-4 on that, TGC2019 certainly is not on the level graphically of other contemporaneous game releases. In my mind I had forgiven them and lowered expectations and that made it ok for me. You restating this though annoys me freshly about it lol. I remember the Links games they made. Learned to accept that tradeoff for good game play & physics with subpar graphics is part of the DNA. Links on the original Xbox: while sim wise good golfing, Holy Geez what a grainy muddy dirty mess. The eyes would hurt as if you tried to focus the image into a reasonable state but was an act of tiresome futility.
So HB, their focus and strength has never been graphics, ever. Pretty cool you were contacted though. Again, you must know what you're doing. I'm going to try to set up ReShade and should be swearing within 20 minutes 😉

Graphics aside, this should be a great game on the simulator. The physics have been improved, hitting realistic iron shots into greens is now possible. Greens no longer feel like they are made of ice.
Hopefully those improvements translate well when being fed by a simulator instead of a gamepad.

Shardak You mention that the physics have been improved. What about when a ball one hops onto the green? For me, i think it's reaction is way off to what happens IRL. For me anything that one hops onto the green still takes off almost regardless of the spin. A 9 may not run as far as a 6, but both instances I would say they run out way too far.
