  • On Screen TGC Menu for Touchscreens

A subject that comes up every now and then is whether a touchscreen monitor can be used with TGC.

While a touch screen can be used, TGC isn't really set up to use touch screens effectively.

To remedy that situation, a couple of us forum users have come up with an onscreen menu for TGC that can be used with mouse or touch screen.

The current version is ready for beta testing and is tailored for XGA screen resolutions.

If you are interested in getting a copy of the program, or if you would like a version for a different resolution please get in touch.

I use a touch screen and I'd be interested in testing what you come up with.

What resolution do you run TGC with? Our current ready to go version is XGA or 1024 x 768

Let me know what resolution you run TGC with on your projector. If it's not XGA then I can get a version customized for your resolution. (Basically it's the resolution that you choose to start TGC with at start up.)

Can you post a screen shot of what this looks like? I mirror my screen and wouldn't really want controls visible unless they are discreet. I have mine running with 1920x1080.

I'll set up a version for you and you can try it out.

It's all in the eye of the beholder. Once I started using the onscreen menu with my touch screen, I forgot all the keyboard shortcuts.

      Give me a few days...

How is voice attack with filtering out the commentary and ambient talking? I was using another voice command software but it kept triggering on John's commentary or when I had others playing with me. It worked pretty good if I was alone and turned John off.

Linc, Voice attack does a great Job filtering out ambient noise as well as John's and others' voices. There are two controls in particular that really let you dial in your microphone picking up "commands" and how selective the voice recognition is in the set up menu..."command weight" and "minimum confidence level"

My biggest challenge was finding the right microphone, as I didn't want to wear a gamer's headset. Found one that works well and it came with a small tripod on Amazon for 14 bux. The microphone sits on the floor next to my GC2 and I can speak at a regular conversational level and it recognizes my commands 95% of the time on the first try. There were a couple of troublesome words, so I just changed the command all together. ie it didn't like menu, so i get into the TGC menu by saying back. Not as intuitive, but better than having to repeat menu 3 or 4x's.

oh yeah...I've had it for a while, but I believe that there is like a 7 day free trial so that you can check it out. It is really simple to map the commands to your word of choice.

I could see using voice when I am addressing the ball, but better touch screen controls would be great when adding a golfer, searching for courses etc.

Oops! Just read your comments about better touch screen controls for "adding golfers, searching for courses..." Prepare to be disappointed!

The Onscreen menu system that we are working on is for "gameplay", not setting up or getting into the game. It's about making playing a round easier and more intuitive, using easily accessible touchscreen controls.

Not to knock TGC but searching for courses has to be one of its absolutely "clunkiest" features.

BTW I was using voice commands for a while as well, different product but it worked reasonably well. Biggest issue was sometimes the sound of a ball bouncing would trigger a command.

I'm making available links to Drop Box which will give you access to the On Screen TGC Menu program for use with a touchscreen that we have come up with.

    HD 1920 x 1080: https://www.dropbox.com/s/jhv6h5zvq3...0beta.exe?dl=0

    XGA 1024 x 768 https://www.dropbox.com/s/1xmp78dm0e...0beta.exe?dl=0

To use it just run the program before or after starting your TGC Sim.

Since the Menu program operates in it's own window and overlays the menu buttons on the window, you have to choose to run TGC Windowed.

In essence, the Menu program's window sits on top of the TGC sim and making selections on the On Screen Menu buttons sends the corresponding keyboard command(s) to the TGC sim.

There are a few quirky bits, but some of the more common selections really come in handy.

Once you exit TGC you can also exit the On Screen Menu by finding it in the System Tray, right clicking, and choosing exit.

It took me a while to get used to using the onscreen menus with my touch screen, but after a while I do not use the keyboard at all and have almost forgotten all the keyboard shortcuts.

Any questions or comments please don't hesitate to write.

Latest opportunity to try out the On Screen Menu meant for touch screens.

They can also be used on regular monitors if you use a mouse.

Available in 3 resolutions. Choose the one that you use for TGC.

      TGC OSM XGA beta.zip

      TGC OSM HD beta.zip

      TGC OSM WUXGA beta.zip

      Unzip and try them out.

You have to run TGC windowed. Run the TGC OSM file before opening TGC and you'll already see the buttons on your display.

Start TGC, running it windowed, and the buttons will mimic TGC keyboard commands.

To remove or end the OSM program, look for the Autohotkey icon in your system tray, Right click on it and choose exit.
