  • Browser that works well for the National Map

Just an FYI to everyone out there.

Since Chrome is no longer supported I had been using Edge, however that seemed to only work about 25% of the time. This morning I attempted to use Edge with no luck, immediately downloaded and used Firefox and it worked great.

Rather than a browser I found it easier to use an FTP program like FileZilla. That way you can just connect to the server and navigate all the files they have in a directory structure (you can use search to look for a specific folder/file name)

Seems like an extra step to me then, once you search on the map then just click to download. All files end up in my download folder. What is the advantage of taking another step to use the FTP rather then a web browser?

The only advantage is not having to use yet another browser I use chrome for everything and am a big user of FileZilla for web design / uploads etc do the setup just worked well for me. I guess it’s an option for others if they start finding other browser support going away

Gotcha, yes I use Chrome for everything. Switched to Edge just for use on the National Map.

I don't understand why the government would switch things up to something that does not support Chrome when it is probably the most widely used browser.

Yeah, I was finding the same issue with Edge recently as well. I then tried Safari with my Mac and found that it downloaded fine. I guess it is a browser issue.

I found that Chrome and Edge didn't work but you can copy the link and paste in Internet Explorer and it worked.
