  • Any good way to adjust tee distances on existing TGC 2019 courses for kids?

    Hi all,

I’m hoping to get some advice on something that feels like it should be a pretty common issue.

There are a lot of really great TGC 2019 courses out there, but when I play with my child, many of them are just too long even from the forward tees. I’d love to keep using these existing courses, but with tee distances that are more reasonable for a junior player.

What I’m trying to figure out is whether there’s any good way to adjust tee locations or create shorter tee options on an existing course, without having to completely rebuild the course from scratch.

    A few questions:

    - Is it possible to edit tee placements or tee yardages on an existing course?
    - If the course is already published, is there any way to do this without the original source file?
    - Has anyone come up with a good workaround for making courses more playable for kids or shorter hitters?

I feel like this has to be a common need. A lot of these courses are excellent, but they’re just set up too long for family play or junior players.

Would really appreciate any suggestions. Thanks in advance.

I don't think that there is any way to adjust the tee boxes outside of asking the original designer to republish another version with an extra tee box. I am sure many of the designers would be happy to do that (I would certainly do that with any of my courses if anyone were interested).

other than that, the only workaround I can think of is just hitting the first tee shot for your junior to the location you think they would best hit from.

That is correct, the person with the original course files would have to edit and repost them .

I made several courses and added short tees after the fact.

I think they all have the word "shorts" in their titles. Try searching with the word "shorts". You should find a few for sure.

          wang2021 check out:

River Ridge Shorts, this is Harbour Ridge, River Ridge course in Palm City Florida with short tees added.

Turnberry Miller Shorts, this is Turnberry Isle Miller Course, just outside Miami, with short tees added.

Rollingstone Shorts, this is Rollingstone Ranch GC, Steamboat Springs Colorado with short tees added

Also, maybe this par 3 Course that happens to have a couple longer holes as well. Fox Creek-Windy Hill(LDR), out of Georgia.

All of these are lidar recreations. Should be perfect for a junior golfer.

I enjoy playing shorter yardages when I don't feel like swinging driver. I go to TGC 2019 Course Discovery, then the sticky Real Course List, then the link on the first post: tgccourses.com. Then I sort the red tees (I guess any tee would work) to ascending and look at the yardages. If you know the average drive, you can calculate the yardage you should be playing. These are averages: 200 yard drive - 5,300 course yardage, 175 yards - 4,500 yards, 150 yards - 3,600 yards, 125 yards - 3,300 yards, 100 yards - 2,600 yards, 75 yards - 2000 yards. When I play the shorter courses myself, I use this guide to determine what club to drive with to play the course as intended to par. There are many courses on the list that have 7000 yards at the tips and 2300 at the forward. Then you can look (in game) at how many plays and the rating to see if it's worth trying. I also search for "kids" with several good results. US KIDS has some good ones. Kids vs parents has some good ones. I built a couple of short courses if you want to check them out: US Kids Brookwoods and Oasis Park Kids (9 hole). All short tees though. Roughly 200 yard drives down to 75 yard drives. It's time consuming to find what you want, but they are in there. Just have to hunt them down

                Hi All,

I have just published a short version of Torry Pines South Course (LiDAR) and have named it Torrey Pines South short. I removed the original Black and Blue tees and have created two forward tees in Red (4,583 yards) and Gold (3,582 yards).

                Enjoy.

A quick progress update on this.

Thanks again to everyone for the tips — the "shorts" search trick and the tgccourses.com yardage guide were both really helpful.

Rather than editing existing published courses (which, as folks noted, really needs the original source file), I've gone the LiDAR route and built junior-friendly tee versions of real courses myself for TGC 2019 / ProTee. A few are now published and searchable in-game:

                  · Big Canyon CC Lidar V64
                  · Strawberry Farms GC Lidar V18
                  · Los Verdes GC Lidar V12
                  · Shady Canyon GC Lidar V11
                  · Lakewood CC Lidar V10
                  · Los Feliz GC Lidar V2

All of them have shorter forward tees set up with junior players and shorter hitters in mind. Would love any feedback if you give them a try, and I'll keep updating as I add more.
