Prairie Landing Golf Course West Chicago,IL

Located in West Chicago, Prairie Landing is a links style golf course that has a lot of rolling hills and is a real fun course to play.
The lidar data captured this course perfectly.

    Hope you guys enjoy it.

I experimented with the deep grass rough by partially burying a lot of bushes to prevent the same roll out that occurs with heavy rough. Also made it a lot harder to hit out of it as well as unpredictable on how far the ball will go.

I also added junior tees that can also be used as a par3.

Thank you! It’s been probably 10 years since I’ve played it but remember a ton of the holes. Looking forward to playing it!

Great track. Loved it. Definitely played the same as I remember. Saw one piece of stray grass on right side of the fairway on 16 I think. I think it’s what you were trying to do with softening the hills. Good work!!!

        Thanks for the kind words.

Yeah, I saw that 1 stray piece of grass too. For the final version, I deleted it and changed the tee #10 location since it was located on break where the grid was yellow. Still playing with the lighting and increased fog effects while picking brighter colored greens and fairways to make sure it doesn't play too dark. Close to prime time.

Great job! You must be located in the Chicago area? There are a bunch of Chicago courses with LIDAR here. I think you’ve made a bunch. Thank you! I just made Makray Memorial and Stonehenge located in Barrington. Makray turned out well I think and I just published Stonehenge without as much time invested as Makray.

Since I have ZERO artistic ability, and have yet to figure out this LIDAR import thing.....

Any Chicago guys interested in taking on Ruth Lake CC in Hinsdale? I caddied there as a kid, and pretty much learned to play there (along with Easy Aces and Blackhorse 9 holers).

I’d love to see this course on my screen!

Is that horse any good is it public or private?

It’s a park district course now, public.... 35 years ago it was a farmer who decided to build a short course, 6 par 3, 3 par 4. It was paradise for me in my teens, as a working class kid with garage sale clubs! Have set foot on it since.

Okay the lighting police are going to check out Prairie Landing later , but seriously thanks for making these chicago-area courses

The beta version plays a little dark. I was tinkering with the lighting this morning and settled on an early AM time near the equator. That way it plays brighter while keeping the shadows.

      Published the final version.

      Prairie Landing IL LDR

5 tee positions with 4 flag options
      Blacks 6766 yards
      Blue 6194 yards
      White 5568
      Green 4944
      Red 2557

Course plays very wide open. Really friendly sim course with the driver. Balls that hit the edge of the fairway will tend to bounce back into it.

968Cab its a time consuming process. There are guys that build courses for $. friendBOMBER has done a bunch and all of them I’ve played are great!!! When I did Makray Memorial it took probably 20-25ish hours but it was my first course.

Thanks. Glad you liked it. Finished creating a undecorated lidar course for cantany and cog Hill 4. There is a lidar course for cantany that's pretty good but was sparse on the decorations. Cog Hill 4 has a very well done rcr but I figured I would do a lidar version of that one.

Wow, Jtangm04, Chicago outer western suburb course specialist. So is that the 3rd 9 at Cantigny you worked with your kid before now redone?
I'll check out coghill also I didn't know that was done. Most overpriced course I'm not paying 150 to play that course it isn't all that for 150.

Jtangm04 is harborside or lost marsh on your radar or are those too south for the western burb specialist?

I was thinking of asking about Harborside. The fact that it is Links courses gave me pause. TGC2019 weakness of bomb & Gouge is at it's worst with links. No spin penalty leads to swing away. Maybe worth it if it can be made to be unplayable like irl from the Fescue, otherwise prob not.

That's awesome! Such a pleasant real life track, something so good yet unassuming about it. And the pleasantness transfered so well on this Sim version, it's a an ideal simulator loop. Hats off Jtangm04.

Solstice72 You are probably right. It’s too bad that links courses are 30x easier than traditional with the bomb and gouge. Lost marsh would be interesting with the water on the first 5 holes and links style that transitions into a traditional. Here is a pic of the 4th hole par 5. The third hole is even tougher.
