Bucket List golf course - this is a sensational layout on the Llyn peninsular in North Wales, with a famous back 9 that juts out on a spit of land into the Irish Sea.
I've modelled the "classic" layout, which is the Front Nine and The Point. The Back 9 is none too shabby, but it's The Point you really want to play. Turn the wind up (and the rain on) if you want a more realistic experience...

Oops...but couldn't work out how to get the point cloud Lax LiDAR data from the Wales Gov. site. How did you manage that?

And it looks amazing of course...did you manage to get the tee up on the lighthouse??!

          http://lle.gov.wales/GridProducts#da...mpositeDataset

You need to download the set of DTM files that cover your area of interest - you may get 50cm coverage, but more likely 1m or 2m - and then massage them into .las or .laz files. I used lastools to do this.

          I don't think it's a lighthouse, it's some kind of weather station...

Aye, you're right it's some sort of a lifeguard listening post.

Would you be able to share how you did the conversion with lastools? I tried a few times over the years and the LAZ file that was outputted had no classification so failed in Chads LIDAR tool. Is there a secret way to get the data classified in the conversion process?

Just finished playing it. Excellent, really enjoyed it and you've obviously put a lot of effort into getting the peninsula just right. Love the lifeboat station and slipway and the attention to detail to get the path down to the Ty Coch from the 15th tee! If I may say I felt the green speed was a tad too high for reality especially given some tasty pin positions! (Played day 1, back tees, very high wind, dawn).

Glad you enjoyed it. Full disclosure: I haven't played here yet, so I assumed greens would be quick like most links courses.... I'll definitely have to visit soon

First off, I only used the elevation data (DTM). There may (or may not) be a way to massage the DSM data to get tree info, but I didn't need it for Nefyn.

One you have the .asc files in a folder, you need the following command (make sure the lastools\bin folder is in your PATH):

                  txt2las -i *.asc -set_classification 2 -olas

This gives you a set of .las files you can use, but I combine them into one file for tidiness (.laz is a compressed .las file):

                  lasmerge -i *.las -o Lidar.laz

Then copy this .laz file to where you need it, and make sure you use EPSG code 27700 (UK mainland).

When you come to "Import Terrain and Features", you will probably need to use Fine Shift South->North and West->East - play about with it until you get it right.

Thank you I will give that a try, think I was missing the set_classification switch

Many thanks for this I now have it working. It does indeed seem to be the set_classification switch that was causing problems in chads tool. Should hopefully open up a great number of classic courses which were unavailable 😀

All the landscaping comes from Lidar, I can't take any credit for it......
