TGC 2019 Quick Guide

I started compiling a list of settings/tips/etc for myself because I forget or lose the thread on here. It has kind of evolved into a quick guide of sorts and covers a lot of FAQs that are asked a lot. Figured I would post it on here for anyone to use. let me know if I missed anything and I'll update it. Hoping this could be pinned on the forum.


TGC 2019 QUICK GUIDE

SETTINGS FILE ON DESKTOP
These settings seem to work best for most people to create the most real experience.
Greens would average around a 10 stimp with these settings combined with in game course conditions (see settings in TGC).
Green Stimp: 6
Green Softness: 1
Green Speed: 3
High Spin Shot Correction: OFF
Straight Put Patch: ON
Driver Boost: 5 (optional depending on LM)
Shot Recording: ON



SETTINGS IN TGC
Before Match, go to Course Conditions tab and change to:
Green Speed: Moderate
Green Firmness: Very Soft
Terrain Firmness: Soft or Very Soft
For optimal projection, make sure time of day is midday with 0 clouds for most courses.



TWEAK & TIPS

FEWER MISREADS
To cut down on how many misreads you get, try these tips:
Point logo of ball at LM
Don’t use white tees
Do not wear white shoes or pants
Do not have anything white or shiny behind where you swing and where the LM takes images


SKYTRAK BALL PLACEMENT
Driver: place ball behind red dot
Irons: place ball direct on red dot
Wedges: place ball 1in in front of red dot
Putter: place ball behind red dot


PUTTING TIPS
Straight Putt Patch ON.
Calculate an assigned value for how fast the lines at each grid box are moving and aim accordingly.
Go to mthunt dead flat range and learn what putting to a number feels like. Concede to Hole 2 and it is a putting course.
Set your Camera View to hide the ball and try hitting closer to screen, around 6.5ft, to help visualize the put.

PLAYING SOCIETIES

Gimmies: Go to Gameplay in TGC and set Gimmies to 2 yards
Wind: None
Shot Recording: Turn it ON in Settings file on Desktop
You must then create an account and sync your nickname. Full details on this step here:

Shot Recording saves all data from every shot in the game on the tour site under your name. You can export the data for use in a big data tool. Make sure you change the game to your actual club you are using for this data to be accurate for analysis. The game usually has something like 5 iron selected when I’m hitting a 7 or even 8 Iron.

HITTING MAT:
If you want to avoid injury, there are 2 main options below. This is a must-have in my opinion.

TEES:
Birtees or rubber tee holders work best. FiberBuilt sells a tee holder.
Try to use tees that are not white. Red and Black seem to cause least amount of misreads.


CONTROL BOX:

If your computer is not directly at your hitting location, this box is a huge time-saver. You can tap any of the buttons with your clubhead to aim, club up/down, target view, flyoever, rewind and more.

Additional options are wireless mini keyboard, Voice Attack, and AirBoard on iPad/iPhone.

Ok maybe the dumbest question. Where do I find the on desktop settings?

In the TGC Simulator Console GUI its the "Settings" option.

High Backspin Correction was for TGC1. If the launch is under 24 degrees and over 10000 spin, spin is multiplied by .5 if on.
Short Game Correction The line Short Chip Correction=ON will switch SkyTrak into a mode able to detect short chips. Its a hardware thing. TGC will launch any shot when the data sent by the hardware is valid. It is only for skytrak and sets a default spin and launch I believe only inside 20 yards.

MT, I have "Short Chip Backspin Correction=0" in my config file. What is that supposed to do or be set at? This is in addition to the "Short Chip Correction=ON"

Oh interesting it's 22y from the pin, and not when the shot itself is under 22y?

Probably why I didnt notice anything when I tested... I did short chips in practice but I probably wasnt within 22y of the flag.

As far as Tour Rules are concerned, what are the limits on Short Chip Backspin?

In an unrelated matter, two shots in a row today I was playing from Heavy Rough and flushed 5 and 6 irons. On both occasions the ball flew straight in the air and went less than 25m (despite both shots being well struck in reality).

Is this just the luck of the draw when playing from Heavy Rough? I found the Heavy Rough on many other occasions and only experienced the 14% distance penalty.

For your play you are allowed to adjust settings by +\- 5%. If you flush a shot and it goes no where, either your hardware failed or you hit something. Look at the post shot screen to tell. Sometime in the heavy rough you’ll have an upslope and a lower shot will not clear that upslope. There is no effect on lie in the game so your body is not parallel to the slope meaning you’d have to ‘hit it higher’ than you would in real life.

Thanks for this. The Divot actions mats are new to me, and I am very interested mainly from 'repetitive strain injury' perspective, but also from the shot data accuracy. I have stepped up the frequency of use and I am feeling it down my left arm and shoulder. These mats seem to be what I need but I would be interested to hear from others who use one.

Regarding shot accuracy, I have often felt that there must be a loss of power off of a mat which may lead to hitting 'divot-less' shots to overcome both issues.

Do I understand this correctly that shot recording is only available to those who participate in the tour site? If so, is there any option to get the shot data from all of our general play outside of the tour? Thanks

Thanks for this, helped a lot. But I still have some questions: Every other day I have problems connecting to the servers in TGC 2019 so I have to switch to offline mode. Is this a common issue? And does playing offline courses change your handicap? Or are there only certain courses which are rated? I'm running TGC 2019 with SkyTrak. Thanks in advance :-)

Not quite sure about the handicap question as I've only played in offline mode one time. The offline courses were all developed by HB Studios, so I'm guessing they are all handicap rated but again I've only played one of those courses.

As far as connection issues, the only time I was unable to connect to TGC was when a storm knocked out the internet at our house. So I'm thinking that's more likely a problem on your end with your WiFi. Are you using your Skytrak in USB mode?

Yes USB mode and my Windows machine has an ethernet connection to the router. ProTee Customer Support were already with Teamviewer on my machine but could not solve the problem. Everything works fine until I try to load a new course or join an online society. Than TGC2019 is in an endless loading screen... Sometimes it shows an Network connection error. But my Internet is fine and fast enough. For me it seems that the server is very slow or not responding at all. The course selection screen for example is 20 times slower in online mode than in offline mode.

That's strange. Never had any of those issues myself so not sure what it might be.

When that happens, open up a browser to https://fast.com and check your internet speed. Perhaps it's not as fast as you think (or intermittently slow).

Fast.com is showing 80-110 constantly. I just deactivated IP6 for the network adapter on my windows machine, rebooted and now it seems to be working. Still slow but at least the courses are loading. Hope this still works tomorrow.

What is the difference between Handicap-Index and HCP? HCP was not updated for the last 6 rounds or so...
