Hey guys,
I have painstakingly designed 2 of my favorite real life courses and I have also created 1 fictional course. Technically, my real courses are not LIDAR, but I did triangulate all of the distances and the layout using Google Earth. Please check them out - honest feedback is always welcomed and appreciated!
I learned to play golf in NYC. Yes, there are a few courses within the 5 boros. My favorite is Forest Park Golf Course.
Designed in 1896, it is well over 100 years old and is aptly named as it meanders up and down 100 ft of elevation changes through a thick forest of tree lined fairways.
It has a timeless layout that challenges your shot making, distance control and sometimes, your patience!
FOREST PARK GC NYC
I moved to Florida 15 years ago and I am spoiled with 50+ incredible golf courses within 30-60 minutes drive. With so many great courses nearby, my absolute favorite is Waterlefe Golf & River Club. When my friends come visit from NY, this is where I bring them! It is visual stunning, especially the back 9 with beautiful homes and boats sitting on the Manatee river that borders and frames the holes.
It is also aptly named, as water comes into play on most of the 18 holes. Unfortunately, in real life, the greens fee has recently increased to over $100 a round making it an occasional HOTDEAL treat instead of my usual home track.
If you are ever in the Bradenton/Sarasota area check it out!
If not, just play it on my TGC19 course - you can almost feel the sunshine.
WATERLEFE GOLF AND RIVER CL
I just published my first fictional course. It will have 1 play when I finish this inaugural round. I designed this course to be a fun and challenging trip through an Oregon mountain valley.
The layout is interesting and makes you shape shots and adjust your approach to match the terrain. I am pretty critical of my own designs, and I have to say, I am really proud of this one. It is fun in that there are many birdie chances but It remains challenging because there are tons of trouble and elevation changes to consider. There are also secret paths and shortcuts to explore and exploit. Look for chances to cut corners and drive greens. Drop 2 clubs on the cliff side par 3. Overall this is one of my favorite courses to play.
Please give it a try and post some feedback.
