  • Question on enclosure built with false wall

I'm working on a new simulator setup in my basement and a concrete "knee wall" on the right side is creating a small complication. I was planning on framing out a false wall like shown below to create a symmetric 16:10 aspect ratio screen with 2x4s. Is this a good idea? Do people find that angle iron and bungees with a grommeted impact screen are the best method of securing it or raw material and tarp clips? With a flat face like I have on the false wall, how would people recommend covering and protecting the space between the impact screen and the frame? Are there any good recommendations on foam panels for the side walls and to cover the rest of the false wall frame?

I find that raw material with tarp clips are much easier and your not putting holes in the screen which can create weak points in it. It allows for easy adjustability as well.

I am UK based. I bought a fully grommeted screen which is also double skinned. Basically the screen material is "framed" by a kind of leatherette material in which are the grommets, on all four sides. The problem is, the screen material is not then stretchable as you can only put tension on the "frame", so any looseness in the screen cannot be stretched out. I bought a metal pipe enclosure for my sim and it sits about half way to the screen from muy ball position. I hit from 8 feet (to front of screen). It came with the side and top material to protect the wall from me and works very well. So my screen hangs on the back of that. You can buy all the pipes and joins to do it yourself if you're handy. Only yesterday, out of frustration, I took my screen down and turned it upside down to see if that would help with the creases in it. If I was starting again, I would go with clips and bungees as you can adjust your tension easily. Annoyingly I cannot do that with my setup
