GSX, I Forgot to Check "The Golf Club" - What is the impact?

I upgraded my pro tee interface to 3.10 and then couldn't get it to work no matter what i did in the settings. I downgraded to 3.07g and everything worked fine so I started playing the tournament last night. After about 8-9 holes, shots seemed to be carrying longer than normal (compared to the readout on the GC2). When I looked in the GSX settings, the check mark for "Use The Golf Club" was unchecked. I had unchecked and rechecked it several times when trying to get the 3.10 interface to work.

Couple Questions:
1) I was surprised it would even work with "The Golf Club" unchecked. Is it normal that it would still work?
2) Would that have caused my carry distances to be off?
