  • Can TGC be played without Internet?

    Hi,

We'd like to play TGC at the summer cottage which unfortunately (or fortunately!) doesn't have Internet.

I looked up the TGC website but it was surprisingly uninformative in that regard. Seems mainly focused towards online play which doesn't really interest us. Is there a more informative site than this one? http://thegolfclubsimulator.com/home

Anyway, we'd like to play a driving range plus a few of our favorite courses. Can this be done? If so, is it handled automatically or do we have to do something?

    Thanks.

I asked the same question directly to protee. Since I have the PC version to check out the courses before the later skytrak integration they told me to put it on offline mode and check out the courses. I did so and it shows 100+ courses which are available for offline play. Unfortunately you can not just download and play just any of the 80000 courses, you have to choose from the 100+ offline courses. Which was fine with me as long as I can play offline at all. Not sure if there is a driving range with them but I can just use the Skytrak one if there is none.

Is there a list of the 100 offline courses somewhere?

I know that's true for the PC game. But does Skytrak have to go online to check the license, in order to play TGC? Meaning you wouldn't be able to play it at all without the internet working.

That's a good question but Seth said something that the license gets written on the on the ST hardware when you update to 2.0 and PC and also if that would be the case you couldn't use it on the real range either or could you ? I think the reason why the license get's written onto the ST is exactly that. But I think Seth would be the right guy to give us a answer.

Sorry, I'm asking about Protee's TGC generally. Not specifically related to Skytrak or the PC game. So many versions!!! LOL

Your comments raise a good point...I hadn't thought about TGC's behaviour possibly being hardware specific.

Hopefully Protee or someone using TGC can respond here so everyone can benefit from the answer. Otherwise I'll ask Protee directly.

              OK, I asked Protee directly.

I only asked about the Protee TGC version on their systems.

The answer was basically what Sascha described in post #2 with the added wrinkle that the system randomly selects which offline course the user can play. So if you have a couple favorites out of the 100 you can't just select one and play. No driving range.

So I don't think TGC will work for us. I'm not sure what does. It would be great if TGC fell back to offline mode gracefully and allowed selecting and locally playing any course that has already been downloaded. But we can only dream...

NOTE: Other systems with more restrictive copy protection might not work at all as m3w mentioned. I don't think Protee would necessarily know specifics of other vendor implementations.

I wonder how hard it would be to have a set of even 10 courses that were saved in a directory that the system could use when not on line. As it is you can play any course you create when testing but not sure if more than one person could play it in that mode. You would think that seeing that those made courses are saved in the course folder, it should not be too far off to do similar with favorites.

Never tried this yet but can you play a course you published off line? Will it still use the internet to search for that course or does it use a file some where else. If it was able to play those off line one would have to get original course files and publish yourself with a new name and then play them. Not sure guys would release them to everyone like that.

I am not a big fan of cloud based things for this very reason. If internet is down or you just can't get internet there is no way to use the product.

In your copious spare time could you see how many can play when testing? Also that testing works without internet? That might be a viable option. Maybe some guys would provide the course file if it's not going to be published.

Also aren't downloaded files cached somewhere? Could they be copied over and then used in test mode? Or are the files somehow different?

I turned on my PC and played the courses that were listed. When I added Internet, there were a lot more courses.
              Working...
