  • Launch monitor ball conversion update

I tested a few range balls and wanted to give some ideas on how to think of normalizing data for more accurate representations. For Trackman users it's really simple since Trackman software already has a normalized function but for other launch monitors, I thought this would be helpful. This is slightly different than what Trackman is saying (especially on the ball speed differences) so if you want more info please visit Trackman website. Around my area, these balls were the common balls for the range.

Limited Distance Soft: Ball speed reduced by more than 5%, wedges' spin are also reduced by more than 5%.
Limited Distance Hard: Ball speed reduced by more than 5%, wedges' spin are increased by more than 10%.
Medium: Similar Ball Speed (+-2%), wedges' spin are slightly less (<2%).

For instance, if you're hitting a Srixon Limited Distance Hard ball which is very common on the range, if you hit a 6 iron and got 100mph ball speed with 6000rpm, expect for you to get about 105mph ball speed and about 5000rpm if you were to hit the same shot with a Pro V1.
Please note that Medium balls are pretty close to the Premium balls (Premium ball will carry farther just so slightly but most of the ball metrics are pretty much similar). So if your range has Medium balls you're in luck!

If anyone can contribute some more range balls that you guys want to know of I would gladly test them out for you. I would also love to try out non range balls such as Titleist AVX or slightly cheaper balls (i.e. Taylormade Project A) than premium balls, since to me they wouldn't perform the same as a premium ball like Pro V1 or Chromesoft.

Let me know if you have any questions.
