I wanted to share my journey with three launch monitors: the trusty Rapsodo MLM (original) for a year, a recent upgrade to the Garmin R10, and the latest addition, the Foresight GC3. Let's dive into my impressions, keeping in mind I've only had one day with the GC3.
Rapsodo MLM: This device has been a joy for the past year. Setting it up was a breeze, and it was forgiving about alignment. Reliability was top-notch, with no missed shots. I especially loved the video swing playback feature and the valuable club data it provided. The only drawback was the lack of a simulation feature and the need for at least 8 feet from the ball to the net. This occasionally caused trouble with wedges going above the net. This led me to explore camera-based devices over radar, but overall, it's been a solid performer.
Garmin R10: A recent addition, and the E6 simulator experience has been fantastic. When I compared distance and spin with my new GC3, I was blown away by the accuracy, especially with irons. However, a few quirks influenced my decision to make the jump:
Foresight GC3: This was a purchase bundled with club data, thanks to a great deal directly from Foresight. As a Mac user, I had to invest in a new Windows laptop (Lenovo Legion 5 15.6" AMD Ryzen 7 7735HS 3.2GHz Processor; RTX 4060 8GB GDDR6; 16GB RAM; 1TB SSD). Setting it up was seamless. Initially considering GSPro, I opted to stick with FSX Play after a couple of rounds due to its impressive graphics, especially compared to E6 on iPad. No lags or freezing to report (knock on wood), and concerns about the AMD processor were alleviated, aside from the constant hum of the fan. During gameplay, the abundance of hooks mirrored my real golf struggles. The inclusion of club data has been a game-changer, allowing me to swiftly address my swing issues. The ability to putt, with data on the putter face's openness, is invaluable. While it's not a budget-friendly option, it's definitely worth the investment for me, especially with limited weekday course time due to work.
