Well, I've finally gotten my simulator to a point where I'm happy with its setup. Granted, its in no way a perfect setup but I had to stay budget conscience and keep my wife semi-happy. So lets start at the beginning. I have a 2 car garage attached to my house, where unfortunately (or fortunately according to my wife) the length is shortened by around 4-5 feet as the prior owners created a mud room. (It is actually a nice feature to have though.) My first setup was to hang an archery net and hit into it and roll it out of the way each time we had to park the car... Started with a DIY hitting mat with insert. from CCE)
Version 2 had me purchase a sportscreen manual roll up and i attached the archery net. It was OK, but again, it wasn't great. Fast forward to late last year. I got a nice impact screen and also moved my projector from my basement theater into the garage. It was OK, but still not great. Got a fiberbuilt hitting mat and was getting there, but I couldn't stand how I had to be offset by a ton because of my hitting position in relation to the wall.
My goals were to be able to have a fully functioning simulator that could be stowed away and taken out somewhat easily all the while retaining the functionality of my garage. I work on cars and have a lift in one bay.
So I have both garage doors now converted to high-lifts and I moved my sportscreen so it is sitting in front of the garage door vs the back wall. Its so much better. I have much more freedom to swing, I gained about 3 feet of distance to screen due to the stairs were impinging in my original setup. Well worth the time and money so far.
Future upgrades will be to re-paint a dark color, change the lighting so its more directional, and get some artificial turf or possibly some dark carpet. For now it works great. Here are some specs:
Sim: Skyrtrak with TGC2019
Hitting Mat: Fiberbuilt 5x4 with insert strip
Projector: Epson 8350 Home Cinema 1080p
Computer: Desktop AMD Ryzen 2700x, RTX-2070
Screen: Sportscreen 10 foot manual, and direct from mill screen. Roughly 16" from garage door (No issues at all)
