  • LM for first home golf sim (on a budget)

    Hi,

I have a new 28'x30' shop with 14' ceiling height (unfinished). I'm planning to use about half of the shop for a simulator. I've learned a lot by spending many hours on this forum. Thanks to all who have contributed!

I'm working on a DIY enclosure with a 12'x9' screen and will be putting in a decent hitting mat. Really, I'm down to just selecting a Launch Monitor. Since this is my first build, I was planning to start with something very inexpensive. I'm sure at some point I would upgrade but since new products are coming out rapidly, I just want something to get my feet wet, perhaps for the first year. I was initially thinking Garmin R10 since depth is not an issue in my shop. However, I am now getting concerned about a radar unit not working well indoors. I do have metal siding and roof on the shop. Not sure if that will make things worse.

I'm thinking my next best option would be a used OG Skytrak. Any other recommendations?

I want to use the simulator for simulated rounds and to be able to practice a little in the winter. (I live in NW Colorado). I have reasonable expectations about the performance of lower priced LM's and don't expect them to be perfect. As for SIM software, I'm not looking for super great resolution, but would like to play a variety of courses. I don't use apple products but can put together a gaming PC, which I expect will be needed. (PC and projector are expected to be future upgrades, I have some cheapo's to get started).

    Thanks!
