  • New Sim Space in Corner of a Barn

I’m looking to build a little Golf Sim space in the corner of a barn on our farm.

Currently use a 3m shed I built for some Zwift and that could do with an upgrade, and thought I could combine the two and have a new space which works for both.

The space is 7m x 4.2m (23 x 14ft), and can put a ceiling anything up to 5m up off the ground.

It’s got a 4% sloping floor (old cattle shed) so that needs levelling first, think 1 cubic metre of screed is the easiest option rather than building a wooden deck. Can also stick some underfloor heating in there. Then need to build a stud room around it effectively, and put a ceiling on which I’m looking to do 3-4m up off the ground so there’s plenty of room.

Will use one wall for bicycle storage, 5-6 of those up there, then a sofa at the back, and need to decide where to station the hitting area.

Will be a little project for a year or two rather than something I’ll be getting finished this year. I play off 9 and really getting back into golf at the moment after a few years of fairly sporadic play due to life getting in the way.

Have read and watched a lot about them, just want to put this out there before I start spending money, any tips or thoughts on this kind of space to save me messing anything up?

I’ve got an Intel NUC which I use for Zwift which I’ll likely use to start with before spending £800ish on a gaming PC.

Looking at a SkyTrak, SC4 or Rapsodo MLM2Pro LM wise, and ultimately using GSPro once I’ve got a PC that can handle it, which looks like the best sim software (?).
Likely just use it all via a TV initially before getting a projector further down the line. Having a cinema room for the kids is a handy part of the sell in overall.

Initially aiming to get V1 done for under £3k if I can, with LM being the main expense to make it a functional space, before upgrading it to something a lot nicer over the next couple of years.

Pic attached shows potential layout with spacings bases on an MLM2Pro, 8.5ft to screen, 7ft to LM.
