This is to answer a message sent to me about putting on sims. First off I can say that putting doesn't suck on sims and accurate putting really brings a level of realism to the sim game.
I have attached two videos that I have done in the past. The first one I used a target ball placed on the center line 10 feet away. I then putted directly at that target ball. Now if we use the game of pool as a reference here. If the target ball gets hit and goes directly towards the screen in a straight line. This would be a perfect HA of 0 degrees. If the target ball is propelled slightly to the right. That would mean that the putt was slightly off center to the left. Now, because it may be difficult to place the ball exactly on the center line and the ball being struck, also exactly centered. Perhaps we can call this test as having an accuracy of +/- 0.5 degrees. After seeing the video, you will see that it may be less than that.
The second video I used ProTee's flat putting alignment course.... which is great to test your sims putting. To do this, place a target on the center line. In this video I used tape on the floor. Disregard the shot delay in this video. During recording I didn't realize that the latest update added a 1.5 second delay for old hardware that was using com ports still. GSA generally has less than a second shot delay. In this video, if the ball touches the left piece of tape the ball will clip the left side of the hole. If the ball misses the taped target, it will miss the hole. Please note at 2:47 of the second video, the ball misses the tape and hits a ball that was laying outside of the taped target.
I also did a rail test a few years back where I came to the conclusion that GSA's HA accuracy is within +/- 0.13 degrees.
Long story short. HA is extremely important when it comes to putting accuracy. Go to ProTee's flat alignment putting course and test your sim for yourself. With GSA, if you missed the putt, you missed the putt.
I admit that these tests could surely be debated, as my methods are probably a little cave man like compared to the scientific methods that are available today. So you can take this testing with a grain of salt. Just saying that putting doesn't suck on sims.....
