New user (optishot)

Hi just bought a used optishot 2 for a bit of practice when the weather takes a turn, I'm just looking for some advice on best set up for accuracy and any tips anyone has

I've had mine 3 years now. They are a lot of fun, entertaining and can actually help you game to some extent. The optishot is not the most precise simulator (the LEDs are pretty low-res infrared emitter detector pairs) so it can get fooled by bad lighting (sunlight), shiny chrome irons that reflect light oddly, or drivers and woods with shiny odd patterns on them.

I now have a full simulator with computer and projector that I've put together at a cost of about $1700. So do you have a location for your setup?

I'm still finding a way to calibrate I don't want to tape my irons every time I use it, (I will if I have to), I have it I'm my living room I don't have a dedicated space so i just move my table and I can swing fully, I'll need a net or mat to hit a ball into and I'll have to rig up a standing area so I'm same height as the optishot

I agree with you. I didn't like taping my clubs either so I found a cheap used set on ebay and painted them all. I painted all of the irons flat white, and all of the woods and driver flat black. On the woods and driver, I do the reflective tape on leading 3/4" as in the video. That's worked really well for me. I used a net for the longest time but I've seen other videos of living room set up, like this guy...

Yeah I saw this video and a couple of others, that is my set up minus the net and standing platform (need to make that) I'm still messing a little with lighting too but it is fun and gets me used to swinging straight

I loved your setup Jay. I thought I would share my setup with you all. I've had my optishot for nearly 2.5 years and the first two years I hit into a net. I got my impact screen and projector a few months ago. This may not be the prettiest but it is very entertaining. It's uncanny how from 5 feet away from the stance mat to impact screen, the image from the short throw projector is almost exactly to scale that one would see in real life. The perspective is simply that good. So when I putt, I actually put aiming at the whole projected on the screen. Similarly with the course in general.

I was wanting to make some kind of standing area so I'm the same level as the optishot it has to be movable as I need to remove it all when I'm finished like the video above what will I need to build a standing area and net all needing to be removed and build in under 5/10 mins

The mat I've been using for a while is a Matzilla (holds a tee) thick 60"x48". Google Matzilla golf mat. Also the optishot top cover is the same Matzilla material. To lift the mat up, I have a 1 1/2" thick sheet of foam insulation (Home Depot or Lowes). All it takes is a box cutter to make the whole for the optishot. It works good and it's held up well to all kinds of abuse. I do like the thick mat material a lot and it's saved my optishot from many many bad swings and attempts at deep divots both behind and in-front of the ball <grin>.
