Mike sounds like your stirring the pot, this thread is on putting. If you have issues with set standards in regards to driver we have board in place to address your concerns.. I hope your aim is not ro cause hate and discontent.
Putting Speed Setting

Just a note here on putt speed. In the past I read that a ball rolls off a stimp meter at about 4.5 mph and if the ball rolls 10 feet on the green the stimp is said to be 10. If it rolls 12 feet then stimp is a 12. What would be a good idea would be to find a green that had normal green speed and test some flat putts and see how much roll you get.
Also on the p3pro where you needed to tape your clubs with black and then a 2 inch reflective strip to give the best results, I would putt without a ball so that you did not have issues with the ball getting caught in the openings of the pad. If some of you guys are still not taping up your clubs for the Optishot, I would highly recommend that you try it, as refection off the clubs are not near as accurate.Mountain Time

What are you talking about? I am seriously trying to understand the logic of allowing 350+ yard drives but worrying about the realism of 10 foot putts. You seriously don't see the irony here?
Green speeds certainly can vary by the type of grass used and certainly vary by where in the WORLD you are playing. I grew up in the mid west where the greens are typically bent grass. The first few rounds I played on Bermuda grass when we moved to Florida I was off my speed by about 25%!!
I am not stirring the pot, I am simply pointing out the irony of adjusting putting speeds while allowing everyone to be long drive champs.

There is a reason the designers of this game made auto putt and left out auto drive and auto wedge. Putting is known to be challenging while driving and iron play can be adjusted to get real world results.
For me personally, I like the idea of allowing adjustments to be made and think they even should be required.
My cage has arrived and I will be constructing it today, so over the next couple days I will be able to hit real balls and see how accurate the game is. It is my intention to keep the game as real as possible and I will make the necessary adjustments to do so. If that means dialing back my woods and irons, I will. I won't be "gaming" the trajectory settings either. If that leaves me uncompetitive then so be it.
My apologies CatMan for trying to understand the logic. It was not my intention to stir the pot, as you put it. I have been out of town and noticed a discussion about putter speed occurring in a thread about an upcoming tournament. I thought perhaps that changes were made, but when I checked the procedure thread none had. This is one rule that I thought you made clear in the procedure thread by underlining and using bold on.
I would suggest that you and the other board members CatMan get together and formulate a hard set of rules in a new "procedure" thread and stick to those. I have been here only about 3 weeks and it seems you are constantly updating or changing the rules there. I'm just another hack who is looking to whack a ball a few times, so forgive me if I don't notice all of the updates or keep up with every discussion that is happening regarding rule changes.

Sorry not "must" but "may".
All I'm saying is putter rules could read "may" be set between 80 and 100 in line with your perceived distances expected whilst making your regular putting stroke on a medium speed green
As I read the rules we may set our drivers lower as it is perceived it only gives a disadvantage, which is probably true but not necessarily, it all depends on how good you are with us irons etc
We may set our irons to whatever we want inline with our real life shots, or leave at 100%
This could be seen as advantage or disadvantage depending on the club
So the only club we can't change to reflect real life is the putter, as any change is perceived to give an advantage. I would argue that any change can only give an advantage but if everyone can change then there is no advantage as we're all in the same boat and would in fact be the fairest rule of all 3
Sorry won't pipe up again just had to correct my previous post

Are there people out there who think optishot 'fast' is representative of any green in the world? 3 or 4 putting just destroys the round. Someone mentioned the speed of the stimp meter it works out to be 4.1mph http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stimpmeter and the ball should roll 10.5ft on US Open Fast greens, compare that with optishot fast 27-39ft !!!! Hell even optishot slow greens roll faster than US Open fast 13-18ft.
So sure 350 yard drives are a joke yet ppl claim it to be realistic, the putting is in another ball park entirely ball rolling 3-4× longer than real life. When i practice on optishot i always play slow greens, its the only way not to destroy my putting feel on the course.
Personally i feel fast greens doesnt find the best golfer it finds the best optishotter.

Mike. I think you are missing the purpose of the guidelines. Irons can be set to real life. Woods can be set to real life as well, but can't be increased above 100. We can only hold players to a minimum standard. if you want your driver at 90% then do it, just don't go over 100.

Thank you for clarifying. It is not my intention to have you "not pipe up again". I simply wanted a discussion.
But who is to say 80% on the putter is "fair"? What if that is still fast for some people? What if say some new guys comes along in a week and wants to go to 70%? or 50%?
If you could adjust to 50% would you only adjust to 80% because it mimics YOUR real course experience or would you adjust to 50% because it gives an advantage and you can?
I guess what I am getting at is that sooner or later we need a hard set of rules that are not negotiable but fair at the same time.

That is what I was getting at. I knew it was close to 4.5 mph ball speed but could not remember the exact. You guys should use this to judge greens and having a 12 on the stimp is about as high as one should play on.Originally posted by MrHogan View PostAre there people out there who think optishot 'fast' is representative of any green in the world? 3 or 4 putting just destroys the round. Yes of course anyone can set their irons and woods, but they don't. When this discussion was happening a few guys even stated they would have two profiles, one real and one at 100% to compete.Originally posted by CatMan View PostMike. I watched you stream a round where you are now intentionally adjusting the trajectory every shot "gaming" the system. That isn't very real.
I'm just requesting that a firm set of rules gets created and we go by that and stop adjusting on the fly. I must confess this was much more fun to me when everyone was playing their real swing and streaming. Now we are adjusting and making the "simulator" a "game" and having tournament results -15 to -20 while I'd bet 99% of here have never shot under par in their life.

I didnt mean to imply you were wanting me to pipe down, just that I didnt want you thinking I was some sort of optishot putting expert and my opinion was more valid than your own.
If 4.5 mph ball speed should equal 12 ft max and ball speed I believe is club speed x 1.5 then 3mph putt should go 12ft on fast greens so think fast greens are higher than 12 on the stimp, which as i think we all agree means they run too fast.
My issue is for me i think even getting that 3mph swing when set at 100 means I have to slow my swing speed far below what Im used to and doesnt reflect my real life.
Mike is correct in that a firm set of rules is a good thing, but imo the rules should be geared to allowing people to make Optishot as true to life as possible. If that results in me disadvantaging myself then so be it, let handicap take care of it. But again only imo 100% putter swing is not a reflection of the swing speed I am making and the resulting distance that putt would travel as a result of that swing. i chnaged my driver and irons to relect these true to life distances and I would like the option to set my putter too
Im all for letting this season run through with fixed 100% speeds but would welcome some more testing by others with putter set at 80 to see how people think it behaves
