  • Handicap Index and *** Optishot Tour

    Hey Guys,

Eventually we will be moving towards a Handicap process, this will keep the field close but also encourage players to practice and improve there score..
What I have in mind is a Weighted Handicap: Handicap weighted against the Gross.

Works something like this Player A is a Scratch golfer, Player B is a 20 Handicap, it we use a Weight of 75% handicap and 25% Gross Player B would have a handicap of 15 coming into Tournament.. Player A would stay same because he is Scratch..

This process will always give the edge to the better golfer, and will encourage golfers to improve there score instead of just settling.

The Weights can vary from week to week until we find a weight that is fair for all and keep it tight..

Please let me know your thoughts

    Thanks
    CatMan

    More Thoughts,

Players would need to complete a minimal amount of rounds so we could have a good base line on what the Average is.. which would be compiled in the Stats

It does Maxxx, however the system does allow flexibility... Just to add not all league or Clubs for that matter always use straight up handicaps, they also use Weight systems

Cool, Let's try your suggestion and see how it turns out for everyone. BTW Catman, any idea where Gotenks,Sadness and Badvs3vil are ? They are three good players we could compete with....

          Cheers

This all sounds good Cat. By the way, I talked to Thomas and all is well. He said he has had family visiting and is caught with normal everyday interference stuff.

Good move Cat. Handicaps will keep beginner golfers playing and having fun. You guys should try the system that's already in place. It's basically the USGA method but will only use the best 5 out of the last 10. This works well in a shorten Winter season. It will also calculate the course handicap for the next tournament. i.e. on a difficult course, the high caps will gain 1-3 more strokes vs the low cappers. On an easy course, the high cappers will loose 1-3 strokes vs the low cappers. The concept of favoring the good golfers is the same as what you posted above. Hoganwoods can modify the weighting for the Optishot league if necessary.

Great stuff ZMax, that sounds perfect, we just need to get some rounds under our belt, to get a true picture like you said...

Gents Until we have an Established Handicap, I leaning towards having a weighted handicap for the Next Tournament. We need to give players a chance to win if they are exceeding there level of Play..

I'm thinking of basing it off low Round from this Tournament, and weighting it between 50-75%. Example if a players low Round was 8, they would have a handicap of 6 at 75%... With each Tournament Played I would look how that Player did against Par, and Reweight it for the next Tournament.. So as a player improves the Handicap would go down, it will not go up.. I know this is not a perfect System but it will tighten up the competition.

Once we have enough Rounds in to get a True Handicap Index we can look at using a true handicap model...

                      Thanks CatMan

Sounds good! I agree with your weighted handicap for now until we get 5 rounds in to auto calculate it. Thanks for managing and coordinating this.
