    sportscreen roller protection question

Have had a sportscreen for about a year and have some memory foam padding around the roller that has worked well for me. In reality, I have very rarely even come close to hitting the roller/foam. The hitting area is 8-9 feet from the screen.
My son has now taken up golf and has a higher launch angle than I do. He has hit the roller a few times now and had one ball bounced back and hit him in the forehead. He wasn't hurt but now I am not comfortable with the current protection we have for the roller and are looking at/for new ideas
i have seen a few pictures from people that have a padded valence (wood with foam) around the roller and some others that have baffles to slow a ball down if it gets up near the roller.
Might consider tweeking our setup to have both a "valence" and some baffles for better protection.

Looking for any advice on roller protection that other sportscreen users have used that has worked well for them
    thanks
