New projector for 4:3 screen

We got an old Full Swing Golf LS 3 simulator, 13 years old still kicking, and I'm looking to replace the projector. I've looked at the numbers and used Projector Central, but still remain a bit confused about how it all works.
Some info:
Do I understand correctly how 4:3 works on a 16:9 projector based on what I've written above?
I quickly realized that the selection of projectors with a throw ratio of 1 is pretty slim, and some of the models I found were 2-3 years old. I only got the models available in Norway to choose from. I first looked for a 4:3 model, but eventually gave up and started looking at 16:9.
How does zoom play into all of this? Is it an option to buy a projector with a ratio that doesn't fit the screen, but use the zoom function, or will that give a poorer picture quality?
Edit: Just realized that the throw ratio range is the range where zoom comes into play. I got a bit confused since the Projector Central throw distance tool shows the projector itself moving back and forth when you adjust zoom range. This knowledge helps me understand a bit more. If my thoughts on 16:9 and 4:3 are correct, that means I can use projectors that has 1.1 in the throw ratio span if I move it back to throw distance of 510 and 1.15 if I move it back to 530 cm. Still a limited selection, but it adds some options.
The models I've looked at so far is Epson EH-TW610 and Epson EB-1780W.

- The screen is 4:3 and software resolution is 1024x768.
- The screen is 350 cm wide and about 265 cm high. (350x262 is 4:3)
- Throw distance is today 470 cm, but can potentially be adjusted backwards to 500 cm. Maybe a bit, but preferably not too much.
- Projector is mounted 250 cm from the floor.
- I'm in Norway, Europe.
