  • Xi tour fading too much?

Last night my simulator was mostly finished. I just have my fringe and putting cups that need to be installed. I have the Xi tour and E6 software. I generally play a very slight fade/power fade. However even when I know I draw or hook the ball, it's still fading. I am a +2 so I have a good idea when I stripe one, cut or draw a shot.

Before I start tinkering, any assistance or guidance would be great. I am in Wisconsin and the last thing I want to do is manipulate my swing all winter and go out and play and have jacked up results.

For my own educational experience I have asked the Flightscope guys a lot of questions. I have also gone through the 1 hour telephone app training. They seem to default to making sure the unit alignment and setup is accurate. First question/recommendation is regularly what mode are you in, typically followed by distances from screen to ball to unit. They suggested a decent amount of trial and error, including backing up my hitting area another foot or two from the impact screen; tweaking the distance between the ball and the unit between 8’ to 10’ and then making sure the distance setting is adjusted accordingly. One thing that was suggested but I haven’t had a need to try is applying a second silver sticker to the ball.

Thanks a alot for the info. Even though I have 21 feet, I am in short indoor mode. I ended moving the Flightscope so it would be right at or close to 8ft behind the ball, which has helped a lot. Also, I actually have enough room to swing center with all of the clubs except the Driver, I move that over approximately a foot. That is part of the reason I was getting some goofy fades, I had the Flightscope over about 2 feet from center and was hitting off center. Once I tweaked it a bit, it has become really accurate now. I know my iron distances very well and things are spot on so far. Due to a soffit behind me, I max out at about 12 to 12.5ft of ball flight to the screen.

The next thing I'm trying to tackle is the delayed ball flight, it's certainly not bad. But if there is anyway to get instant ball flight, or less than a second delay, I will do it. Currently there is a 1-2 second delay before ball flight begins. Every so often it's between 2-3 seconds. I had it on bluetooth/wifi and hooked up the usb to see if that made a difference, it was still about the same. Is this something that can be improved, or is it as good as it's going to get?

Right, once I figured out what my optimal setup is, the accuracy has been good for me also.

As as far as the delay, I have only been using the iPad so far as I just got my laptop on Friday and haven’t had a chance to load anything yet. My shots show up around 1-2 seconds on the iPad also, and my big mis-hits seem to take a few seconds to show up. I guess I should stop missing shots. 😀

haha, yeah I've noticed when I hit it pure it registers a lot quicker! Another question regarding alignment. I've noticed it has a difficult time reading my driver and 3 wood if I am off center at all. The trouble is I only have 12'3 between each of my posts in the room. I can swing pretty much every other club on center except for the driver. I never thought moving the ball over a foot or so would skew the results so bad. Does E6 or Flightscope have some sort of offset setting to account for this? To compound the issue, my driver ball speed ranges between 162-167. I have recently read that makes things a lot more difficult for the radar to pick up. Sorry I keep peppering you with questions, I have 3 young kids and I haven't had a ton of time to tinker with this yet.

Well it looks like you and I are in a similar situation, just getting used to a new Flightscope but kids taking up a lot of time...unfortunately not the ball speed range. I don’t have E6, so not sure there, but it doesn’t seem like the scope cares as long as it is lined up with the ball/swing path.

One thing I have noticed is that I get more consistency if I line up the scope pointing closer to the tee area, but still picking up the iron hitting area. The VX app has two different tools you can use to line up the scope under the connection settings which helped me out (if you haven’t already done the app or found the settings). I pack my scope away after each use so the app tools help me set it back up quickly.

If you haven’t tried already, you may consider adding another metal sticker. Silver metal sharpie has worked for marking the ball also, but it wears off after several shots. I am hitting into a net right now, not a screen, so I am not sure if the sharpie is rubbing off on the net or flaking off from ball compression. So you may want to keep an eye on it.
