Projector Purchasing & Placement Concerns With Mevo+

    Newbee here,

I have been told that interference occurs when the Mevo+ detects the fan from the projector. I am wondering if anyone here can speak to this happening? It seems the running fan in the projector interferes with the radar capabilities of the Mevo+.

I am expecting my Mevo+ towards the end of the month and am trying to decide which projector to purchase.
As it stands now, I have 8' from Mevo+ to tee and 13' (possibly 14') to the net/screen from the tee. I will be mounting the projector to the ceiling which is 10'. I was looking at short throw projectors, but now possible interference is added yet another wrinkle into the decision process.

Any and all help here would be greatly appreciated.

It was me that reported the projector fan issue with my old TM3e, which was about 10 feet from the TM and about 8 feet high (I posted measurements on an earlier Mevo+ discussion from when they first came out). I had just moved from my garage set up where everything worked fine apart from my metal garage door causing the odd no read) to my current set up. When I turned everything on and started to test I found I was getting the no reads again and then started trouble shooting. As soon as I turned the projector off the issue went away. Moved my projector up 10 inches or so and kept it in the same place and issue went away.

I posted this more more as a caution, but it would seem others are not getting issues with their Mevo+. However, please note that the Mevo+ instructions do include some interference warnings that I would try to adhere to.

Thanks Dax. I do recall reading that yesterday as I tried to locate similar issues experienced within this forum. However, I discovered this issue through a conversation with customer service at Flightscope on Friday, as I was looking for information on which projector I should purchase and the topic came up about placement and why.
Do you have any recommendations about projectors that might work well with Mevo+? I have about 21' (possibly 22') to work with.

mphugh that is the million dollar question here re what projector. It really depends on your setup and budget. Is your room fairly bright? If yes then you are going to need lots of lumens and many of the short throw projectors that others have had success with likely won’t work that well. With that said I made due and did pretty well with a low lumens benq for a long time (I think it was around 2000 lumens) that worked well in my garage but not so much in my new location, but still did the trick. I actually just switched yesterday to a Panasonic ez580 and have been very impressed with the upgrade, but I should note this needs a lot of room to project a good size image and depending on your set-up you can experience shadows. I bought it as it is bright and is easy to switch to a short throw lens should I choose. The other Panasonic that a few others here really like is the PT-VZ580. However, it is really dependent on budget and I think you could find a lower lumen Optima or Benq short throw (or even an Epson) with about 3000 to 4000 lumens that should fair pretty well at a good price.

On the distance point of view, if you have the 22 feet, I would go with that (assuming you are not sacrificing anything else). This will give you one foot from wall to impact screen and say you lose another on the back wall for the Mevo+ (I suspect it is more like six inches you lose, but a foot makes measurements easier) and then you have 12 to 13 feet for ball flight (assuming 8 feet radar to tee). Just protect your ceiling for your wedges.

Wow, I really didn't even consider the wedge being an issue, thanks, Dax! I will now be moving the net and screen back a foot. Thanks for that nudge.
Are you saying a "short throw" is still a workable consideration?

I should note that the ez580 is a very different projector from the vz580. One of the biggest differences will be the extra -read much higher - contrast found in the vz580.

mphugh short throw is definitely still an option (although maybe not one that is 6 feet from screen when you are 10 to 12). Not sure moving your screen will do much for the wedges at the 10 feet from screen and thus would suggest consider adding some ceiling protection (lots written on that on this site).
