  • Mevo+ Teardown

The internal photos of the Mevo+ submitted to the FCC are now available publicly. The 24GHZ radar looks very similar to the short-range, high-resolution radar on the Trackman 4.

Very cool! Thanks for posting. I was thinking the receivers would be more towards the far corners of the unit to optimize picking up variability in ball flight.

Interesting that they used a rasberry pi. This thing could cost next to nothing to make--just paying for the R&D now...

I wonder if this is why the power supply is so critical to be oem. Raspberry pi always recommended an official charger

Natural evolution of electronics, very good for the consumer segment. Flightscope’s founder confirmed in a recent webinar that the next advances will come from software analysis improvements and from sensor fusion, combining data from radar(s) and camera(s).

Would this be expanding on what's already on the Mevo+?

I wonder if the wifi adapter is replaceable on units with disconnecting issues?

            Very interesting.
I love that the battery is off the shelf style because I was worried about support once warranty is over.. (I'm a software/hardware tech).
As for changing the WIFI module... that would depend if the kernel they used has all kernel module built-in to support other brands/types..
Would definitely be nice to have WIFI5+ on that..
As for camera.. I still can't believe Pro Package is able to deliver fairly good results with that slow of a camera.. The overlay feature that got added to FSGolf recently shows that it's far from perfect compared to my high FPS slo-mo... It's an approximation but still amazing for the price.
Not sure I'd pay for their ~500$ face-impact feature though.. They've "milked me" enough already.

Anybody knows if they use a somewhat standard Pi linux OS? I'm tempted to open mine up and see what wifi kernel module they have in there so we could possibly upgrade the wifi dongle to decrease video upload time when doing multicam... I'm thinking a cheap WIFI6 dongle could net us a nice speed increase or even increase range somewhat..

I did a port scan of it a while back and It had quite a few standard linux ports open..
One of them was the MJPEG video stream of the radar's camera.
I can't remember if they had SSH enabled.. Would need to hack my own device to login though. mmmm

May have to open it up to swap out battery eventually too but seeing as I mostly use it in garage not sure I want to risk it yet as it's still working very well after 2 years.
Technically the warranty is long gone as it's only 12 months.

I wonder how hard they made it to remove casing? Hopefully not one of those clippy thing...

Note: I work with linux for a living and studied in electronics so I wouldn't recommend this type of stuff to most people obviously. And I wouldn't expect warranty if I did open it up.

Did you ever get anywhere with this? I'd be interested even using a USB to Ethernet adapter

Would love to see pics from the newest Mevo+.
Has anyone tried swapping out the USB wifi dongle for a faster one? Or upgrading any other components?
                    Are there any proprietary parts
