  • Mevo+, Wedge Shots, and distance from net

    Hey All,

I have a net that has a lip at the top so it can catch my higher wedge shots. With my SkyTrack, I make sure I am close to the net so the ball doesn't hit the roof. For the Mevo+, if I have to be at least 8 feet back, what do people do to not hit the ceiling? Do people not use their 56 degree or which ever club?

    Thanks!

I'm 9' from my screen... top bar of my frame is right around 9' off the ground or so, give or take a couple inches? It's very very rare I hit the top bar with a wedge... but I'm not a high hitter.. I have friends that are "flippers" and have hit ceiling or top bar though.

For me, I attached one end of some netting from the top of my screen/bar and stretched it out on an upward angle out about 3-4' from the screen and attached the other end to the ceiling with some bungies and eye hooks. catches high shots when the occur.

You can also hang baffles from the ceiling.. or put up some foam.. lots of options...

It's why I won't go back any more than 9' though. Any further back and wedges get too close to the top of the screen for comfort. My total ceiling height is only 9 foot 6 inches, and my screen goes almost all the way to the ceiling though. If I had say 11-12 foot ceilings, I'd just make my screen as tall as possible, and wouldn't worry about the ceiling too much... I always wonder how people set up their sims with 13 feet of ball flight... they must have tall ceilings!

Do you find there are misreads if you go closer than 9 feet???

There are certainly some misreads if you go closer than 9'. Too high ball speed, too low launch and not picking shots up.

I didnt notice much difference between 8-10 feet. Nothing that swayed me to be closer or further. 9 feet just felt more comfortable and was better distancing for my overhead projector . I'm not a super high speed guy though at 140 ball speed with driver

Hi, i misunderstood this comment at first - but this raised a question i hadn't thought about.

I have an open box shape consisting of x4 Nets - so 1x Right, 1x Left, 1x Behind and 1x over the top.

The top net droops a bit over time - if my steeper clubs hit the roof of the net and drop down - will this affect the readings on the Mevo+ or does it know when the ball hits a net?

          Thanks
          Dave

I like hitting from 12 feet away. This takes full LW out of my list of shots. With my old screen height, I could hit 34 degrees LA without hitting the padded ceiling. My new sim room will have a 9'8" screen height. The new room should allow for 38 degrees LA. Over the years I have become comfortable hitting 1/2 and 3/4 52 wedges instead of the 60. Even though I can hit a 38 degree shot..... I will still be putting 4 to 6 feet of ceiling protection in front of the screen.

To keep balls away from my neighbors gardens and remain almost safe in case of rebounds i play outside in a 10x10x10 cage.
it won’t be perfect in winter but my garage ceiling is too low for woods so at least I can play all my clubs for a reasonable price and with my wife’s approval
