  • New build/setup advice for Mevo+

I am looking for advice/suggestions in setting up a golf simulator room with mevo. I have already purchased everything. I have hung an Epson short throw projector and a premium 14' wide x 9' tall impact screen. The space is 20' deep. I am going to build some wall and ceiling panels to help absorb impact from really bad mishits. I am planning to wrap 1" foam insulation boards in fabric. Has anyone done something like this and does it hold up against the occasional horrible shot? I see setups that have secondary displays on the wall. Is this required? Does the same information not appear on the main screen? Mevo+ uses IOS. Do you guys recommend getting an iPad to dedicate to the simulator room? I can't imagine my iPhone working well in this scenario. I noticed a lot of people have computer cabinets in their rooms as well. I have a closet that houses all the electronics. It has the receiver and CPU in there and all wiring runs into that room. I would appreciate any tips as someone that is new to simulator setups. I have checked the forums and have found some helpful information but I didn't find much on this topic.

Hey man! I got my Mevo about a month ago or so. I was wondering the same thing. You will want to get a PC IMHO to run any additional software like TGC19 or E6 although E6 can run on an iPad. However if you're only buying an iPad for E6 I'd say just get a PC for less money. I bought a "gaming" PC for around $800 dedicated to the Sim room. If you're not getting E6 or TGC19 you can probably wait and just run the Flight Scope app from your phone and broadcast it to a separate monitor/screen. The big question is which way you're planning to go with TGC or E6. If you're purchasing either of those, I'd get a PC dedicated to the Sim room.

As for mishits, I am not really sure there. I am the only one hitting on my sim right now as I don't have good protection on the sides just yet. I'm saving for some more setup like that. That said, depending on how off you hit it, you may still be okay. I hit the occasional hosel and have not missed my screen yet. I'm about 9 feet from the impact screen.

    Hope that helps some.

Thanks. I purchased a gaming CPU just for this golf room. I have already purchased TGC software as well. Is there a benefit of me having a secondary monitor in the room? Do I need it to act as a computer monitor to aim or change clubs while playing? Can I just use the main screen for that stuff?

If you do not plan on purchasing any upgraded software, you can only run the Mevo+ on iOS. I would suggest a dedicated iPad if that's the route you're going to go. That's what I have now and it works well enough. The graphics are much worse though, and the display does not fill up the screen. Additionally, I'd like to play more than the 5 courses. For those reasons, I plan to upgrade to a gaming PC and purchase a software upgrade. It must be a gaming PC that meets the specs for the software. A regular laptop or PC will not suffice.

As for your question re: 1" foam insulation wrapped in fabric, I did this and it works great. I used gorilla glue to adhere the insulation board to 1/4" plywood, and then glued acoustic foam panels to the insulation board. I then hung the boards on the sides of my enclosure. It has worked well to capture any errant shots as well as help reduce sound.

Thank for that info. I don't think 1" foam would handle dead on squared shots but it should handle errant shots that have a great angle of deflection. I figure if i mishit it that bad the ball can't be going that fast and 1" foam would take it. I have purchased a gaming PC just to run TGC. I see a lot of golf rooms with a second monitor in them and wondered if that is needed?

fortner28 I have an additional screen (not hooked up yet because I haven't gotten around to getting the correct cable) that I plan to use for when I'm playing online with buddies. I can pull up their screens or cameras via discord on that screen and keep my impact screen and projector dedicated to TGC. I don't think you can run the flight scope app at the same time as you do TGC, so you wouldn't be able to run say TGC and view your stats via FS golf app on the other monitor. If that makes sense.

Also, you can just use TGC for all your golf requirements. Changing clubs or anything. You do NOT need a second screen for that.

Thanks. I think you answered my question.
there isn't any additional information you get when running TGC that would require a second screen. I have extra TVs around and I could set one up. I am just trying to figure out what people use them for.

I play in my garage with a second car to the right so to catch errant shots I hung moving blankets. They work really well. They absorb the shot and drop the ball. The errant shots are really never at full speed (off the toe or hozzel rocket) so the moving blankets don't have to be that thick.
    They are cheap on amazon.
