    Mevo+ Outdoor Driver Issue

    Hi Forum Members,

I recently purchased a Mevo+. I have been using it in an outside, covered range in the UK. I have the following issues:

A/ Mevo+ is not reading all my driver shots. On average, it misses 1 out of 3. When it starts missing, it tends to miss few in a row.
B/ When Mevo+ does read, it often displays very high spin numbers (e.g. 5k)

Here are a few things to consider:

    1. I of course select the Driver Club in the FS Golf app.
    2. The app is set to outdoor mode.
    3. Every single one of my iron and wedge shots are read and look correct
    4. I have played around with all the usual parameters in the FS Golf app including tee to Mevo+ distance, tee height, weather on/off, target alignment, moving the unit left and right and tilt. Nothing seems to help.
    5. If I set the app mode to indoors, every single one of my driver shots are read surprisingly. Of course the spin is always estimated as I am not using any metallic dot outside.
    6. The above data points are based on testing with about 400 swings/balls over 4 different days and on 3 different bays.
    7. FS skills app shows the same behaviour.
    8. My average golf ball speed (range balls) with driver is around 135 mph.
    8. I have not installed and tested any other app.
    9. The above behaviour is not really dependent on ball flight at all. It feels completely random.

Flightscope support have so far not been very useful. They have only made suggestion on app settings like weather on/off and tee height - none of which has helped.

As the unit is reading the driver in indoor mode, could it be :
    x) a software issue ?
    y) a hardware issue where the radar is unable to “see” the ball for the minimum 44 yards required for outside setting with higher ball speeds ? ( remember irons and wedges are all reading absolutely fine in outdoor mode)

Any help / tips from forum members would be highly appreciated !

only thought is to try it in a more open setting - wide open range without any bays, tee box on a slow day, etc.

Victor, I have the same issue on my Mevo+ bought recently in the UK as well. Hopefully yours is fixed from a range without bays etc, however I know this isn't the fix for me. My driving range is wide open without any outside interference that might affect the radar. I've also tried it out on the course on several holes and still get many misses with the driver.

With irons, the unit works pretty flawlessly and hardly misses any shots with the alignment relatively accurate. However drivers are hardly captured and if they are, they are usually shots that start right. There is also an issue with the alignment as there is a clear bias to the right i.e. the ball ends c. 10 yds right of target but Mevo+ shows it as 25 yds (these aren't exact numbers but ball park from my experience). E6 Connect picks up most drivers, however. Presumably this is because it is using more of an indoor simulator mode.

Flightscope support have been somewhat helpful, asking me to be 8ft behind with 18 tilt and +/-0.5 roll which I've done without much change. I've also submitted a few shots through the troubleshooter, one of which I did yesterday so I will await their response. I was initially thinking it was my unit but it is interesting that someone else is having the same issues. It is quite frustrating seeing irons work so well but the driver isn't and I was expecting the unit to be more flexible with the tilt/roll just to capture shots rather than it being very specific.

As an update, support have managed to fix this issue from a remote session. They need to access a windows laptop as the software they use logs into the Mevo and they can make any parameter edits to the firmware. It turned out they needed to change one parameter to fix the issue. Most drivers read on FS Golf after testing it out tonight.

Spin did look a bit high, which might be due to the range balls. I'll look to test more with premium balls, as
I'd expect spin in outdoor mode to be pretty accurate.

If you can somehow access a window laptop then it should fix the issue. I will also let them know so hopefully it's fixed in future firmware updates.

Many thanks for your update ! Will install windows on my MacBook just the remote session.

After updating to 0.18, I am seeing improvement in the driver. I have to play 14-15 shots to get the device to register 10 shots. On the other hand, chipping was perfect in 0.17. Now it has stopped working altogether in outdoor mode. Go figure ! ( it does work in short indoor mode but I am playing outside on a range).

Thanks. Which firmware shall I request the roll back to ? Currently on latest (0.17).

Mine works fine outdoors. On course I have recorded a few drives and the data seems ok (low 2k spin). If you're hitting range balls, most likely they are 80% balls. I have found that the range balls tend to spin way higher at around 3500 rpm which is just because of the balls, not mevo+.

Thanks. Are you hitting in a covered range with separate bays or a more open setting ?

My local range is very open, no "bays". I have hit in other ranges too, with hitting bays, and the mevo+ picks almost every shot.

Im going to do a video this week on a mevo+ range session in the UK. I will also hook up a Trackman at the same time to see what sort of data comparison i get.

Speaking to the Pro, they use Srixon range balls that have been tested and compare well but spin is slightly higher than a normal ball. They 'normalize' the ball on the trackman. I dont think you can do this on the Mevo+?

I will use the range ball and standard ball options to see what differences there are.

Really looking forward to this video to see your set up and data you get
      Working...
