    Mevo+ Distances Short 20-30%

Just started using my mevo+ this week and updated to the latest firmware (0.18). Currently using an ipad.

I am using the short indoor mode with about 8’ between radar and ball and 8’ of flight. I am hitting into a net covered by a blanket. I am going to add a screen and projector sometime in the future if I can get things to work.

So, on to the issue. All of my distances are 15-30% off real life distances. My 290 driver is reading 225 and my 240 hybrid is reading 190. All my irons have the same problem all the way down to PW. The disparity between real life and mevo shrinks as the clubs get shorter, but the distance percentage is always off by 25%, give or take.

    Has anyone experienced anything similar?

    UPDATE:

It’s a cold and rainy day in MN and I had outdoor weather selected. That seems to have been part of the problem. I also backed up the radar to 9’ and adjusted the corresponding setting. Got the hybrid up to 220 total. Now it’s only 5-10% short of IRL, which I am willing to say could be ISS or mat effect.

290 driver ... is that carry? And what are you basing that on?

Probably total, not carry. Based on a round of golf 10 days ago. I go to the range regularly and have hit on a trackman before as well. So, maybe my yardages are slightly affected by the mats, but 20-30% seems like too much.

I am going to hit on a trackman again next week to make sure I am not crazy.

How far were you carrying driver on the trackman and how long ago was that?

Like 270-290 two years ago (pre-COVID). It was for a driver fit.

Post some pics of the Mevo shot data from a swing or two. Usually the best way of figuring it out. There's multiple possibilities, starting with indoor swing syndrome.

Here’s one before I made changes and then one after I adjusted for weather and moved the radar back.

it’s only 10-20 yards short of what I would expect, so, as I said in the update to my original post, I think with these changes, ISS and my cheap mat could be accounting for the remaining 5-10% shortfall.

EDIT: looks like they posted in reverse order, but you get the gist.

What were your ballspeeds on the trackman with driver and hybrid?
Those numbers add up pretty well, question is are the ballspeeds way off. One curiosity would be those hybrid numbers arent far from my 6 iron, and I am over the moon about a driver that rolls out to 290.

i don’t remember the rest of the trackman numbers, which is why I need to go again. I may not rush out to do so now that the data is looking better.

if your 6i is carrying 215 and your driver doesn’t roll out to 290, you probably need a driver fit.

Hey, no worries. Even if your 6i carries 188, you should be able to hit 290 with the Driver. It’s worth having a look.

This is outdated, but I think still pretty accurate relative to each column.

I "can" hit it 290 total but that's on a better strike, perfect strikes and launches may total just over 300 but those arent my averages. My numbers line up well with 110 mph swings.

when comparing distances, you need to look at carry, not total. To me, it is very difficult to know how far a driver carries on the golf course before roll out, so it is very difficult to precisely compare LM driver distances to real life. But you can certainly work on quality of strike, launch angle, etc, which will certainly translate to the golf course. That said, the achilles heel of mevo+ indoors is high driver back spin, which probably does contribute to some reduced carry

Fair enough, but it's pretty hard to judge carry IRL for a comparison, especially for long clubs.

Looks like in the second image the spin is estimated (italics) which would cause some of the drop in distance. Pair that with 8 mph slower ball speed and you'll get the 190 distance. I'm sure the weather turned on didn't help either.

Mevo+ is known to estimate spin on higher speed shots, like driver. Check those numbers when hitting driver to see if your spin is above 4,000 and in italics.

I see what you're saying on the italics and estimate, but there's no way the club speed jumped that much. All of my readings were down, I made some adjustments, and then all of my readings came up.

I will keep an eye on the estimates moving forward.

Another point of reference, the spin of 4,300 vs. 2,900 is roughly 7-8 yards of carry distance difference. You can plug the numbers from your shots on the Mevo+ into the flightscope optimizer to see the impact spin has on the shots or any other metric if you want to compare without actually hitting shots.

FlightScope's Trajectory Optimizer is a golf ball flight trajectory program. The program will plot the flight of the ball in real time after the user's input of the initial launch conditions of the golf ball. Based on scientific algorithms, FlightScope's Trajectory Optimizer will help you find your optimal ball flight trajectory to add distance to your golf shots.

Also if you can get 10+ feet of ball flight the estimated readings happen less often for most people.

Duly noted. I should be able to do that once I get a screen installed. For now, if I move back 2 more feet, my PW will fly over my net and 50* and higher already goes over (it's not a great net). Nearly took a ricochet to the face.

Did you ever sort this out? I just purchased and set up a Mevo+ exactly like the instructions and videos show, but am getting distances far short of reality, like 30 yards short on an 8 iron.

Some of the posts above are less than helpful, challenging the guys distance claims. I've been golfing for 30 years and know how far I hit my 8 iron.

I gave up last year. They were very helpful- sent flightscope picks of my garage and they didn't find anything of note. then they said it was an indoor swing thing where people tend not to swing as hard because of the perceived limited space (or something like that) - that was bogus as i was swinging harder/faster than ever. They have done some firmware upgrades since and i just have not got back to seeing how it is now. outdoors- seem accurate, indoor- same 15-30 yrds shorter. i will try to get back into it and let you know, do you have the new 2023 model?

My distances are off about the same amount too indoors using the last gen mevo plus. The club head speed is better in comparison so I don't quite understand why the carry distance is so off. I use an iPad exclusively. I wish there was a way to set and forget the weather/elevation because I think you could dial it in using that but it doesn't seem to be a preference that I can find. I do find the E6 driving range distances are better so you might try that but I prefer the wealth of info and functionality of the flight scope app better.
