  • Successfully installed FS Android apps natively on Windows 11 (and works!)

I recently upgraded my main simulator laptop to Windows 11, so I wanted to try out its Windows Subsystem for Android out. Once done, you'll be able to run FS Golf on Windows 11 as if it's just a normal PC app, with full window scaling and resizing capability. Also, it seems to run a lot smoother than on my S21 Ultra or by Galaxy Tab S4.This has practically quenched my "thirst" for a PC version of FS Golf for now. (since I wanted it mainly to avoid needing to switch HDMi connections and also use two different devices etc.)

I fudged my way to get mine working initially, but throught that experience, I think this is now the easiest way:

    1. Follow this guide to install Windows Subsystem for Android on any Windows 11 PC
    https://www.xda-developers.com/how-t...windows-11-pc/

    2. Then download an app called APKPure from https://apkpure.com/, and then sideload the apk with the steps laid out in the same guide above.

    3. Then launch APKPure, and search and install FS Golf from there.

    4. Now you can launch FS Golf from within APKPure app. Done!

You just need your Mevo+ connected to your laptop wifi as normal, then the FS Golf app will just see it connected as expected.

    -----------

Just for kicks, here's what I actually did thinking it was the better way, then later finding it may not be. I first followed this video guide to install the Google Play Store (thinking that will just let me find and install FS golf after) https://www.theverge.com/2021/10/27/...apps-microsoft, then found out that FS Golf and FS Skills isn't listed in this Play Store as it thinks my device (laptop?) isn't compatible with them. So I ended up having to side load APKPure, and installed FS Golf using that instead.

Would the e6 iOS version work like this? Meaning is the included e6 on iOS for Mevo+? I have it on iPad but TGC2019 on my laptop

Afaik, there is no easy or proper way to run iOS apps on a Windows PC atm unfortunately

I would assume this would work with e6 connect app. Or do you think there will be license issue?

There is no Android version of e6 and Mevo+ only comes with an iOS license. So this new WSA feature in Windows 11 won't help with that. It would be best if Mevo+ just comes with a PC license also tbh. If the Pro Package comes with a PC license, that would make it much more enticing IMO.

Awesome! Upgrading to Win 11 now.

I thought this was one of the new features that win 11 included (the ability to run Android apps). Happy to see it works!

I would still rather have a more polished looking PC app with better graphics etc, but yeah, this isn't bad at all, and much better than running in with my phone or tablet. Especially sice I have my laptop plugged into the projector for TGC 2019 all the time, now I can super quickly switch to FS Golf without needing to switch both HDMI connection and Mevo+ wifi connection to a different device. Still early days for Windows 11, and I'm still not a fan yet on the GUI changes, but this is one positive thing for us at least.

BTW, I edited the OP as I made an assumption on FS Skills working but I haven't actually tried it yet. APKPure doesn't have FS Skills, so I may try side loading it later and see if it works also.

            Aussiebenny -

Have you had any crashing issues? I've followed the guide and gotten FS Golf to launch and even align the Mevo but it crashes when I try to start a session.

rjheard I initially had issues with it starting up sometimes (it'll lauinch, then close immediately after), but after rebooting my laptop with some new Windows 11 updates, haven't had any issues since, and I can launch the FS Golf app through its own shortcut directly without needing to use the APKPure app also. I use it regularly and hasn't faulted on me yet. (touch wood)

Well heck... I uninstalled the android subsystem and started over but as soon as I attempt to start a session it crashes. I may have to wait for the official PC version if it ever comes.

Ah dang. I guess Android subsystem on Windows 11 is not mature enough yet. Hopefully FS doesn't just give up on the PC app thinking this will suffice. (though recent Q&A sessions sounded like they were counting on this Windows 11 feature)

rjheard I had the same issue (crashing when launched) shortly after installing it using the original steps I posted above. Only way to overcome it was to "reset" the Windows 11 and start with a brand new install of Windows. Then followed the more legit steps below and now it works fine. Microsoft also updated the WSA version since my last post so I assume they have ironed out many bugs as well.

I can confirm FSGolf works perfectly on Windows 11 if you follow these new much easier (and non-hack) steps:

            1. Follow these steps to get Windows Subsystem for Android (WSA) working on your Windows 11 PC

            2. Then go here and download the v3.0.43 APK colored green. (Not the XAPK)
Download older version of FS Golf apk on Android. Install the old versions of FS Golf compatible with your device. No virus and free download.

            3. Then Sideload the APK using following instructions:
Find out how to sideload Android apps on Windows 11. With ADB, you can install any Android app on Windows 11 without Amazon Appstore.

            4. Done! Launch FSGolf app like any normal Windows app!

Thanks for the instructions, Aussiebenny. I managed to follow them successfuly... until the very last step - I get the error "adb: error: failed to get feature set: no devices/emulators found". Any idea what I am doing wrong? I have the emulator running when I execute this final step to sideload FS Golf.

Hmm. Not exactly sure sorry... But maybe check out some other methods/guides to see if there is a better way to get it working or maybe will tell you of a step that you may have missed.e.g. https://www.makeuseof.com/windows-11...-android-apps/

I assume when running fs golf via android emulator on pc that there is no way to record swing video is there? A usb cam in the pc for instance?

I haven't tried this actually. Will try to find a webcam to try with later.

I noticed this week that suddenly my FS Golf once again stopped working on my PC. It will launch, and I see the app window, then it immediately closes within a second or two. Not sure why. It may be due to something that I installed afterwards that is causing some incompatibility, but not sure what. Quite annoying.

Thanks to @aussiebennie for this thread. I was able to successfully load the latest FS Golf on Win 11 last night. I pulled the more recent APK v3.0.45 (2021-11-23) but have yet to connect it to the Mevo+. I am hopeful there are no issues.

Are there any prospects of seeing FS SKills in the APK as well anytime soon? I am excited about the potential of simplifying my technology to simply the Win PC.

Congrats! Glad to hear you were able to get it working. If it launches, it should work with Mevo+ connected to the PC. As for FS Skills, I was able to download the APK for it by searching on google but it would not launch (even when FS Golf was working fine). If you have any luck, let us know.

                Happy New Year!

I've not had any luck with getting FS Skills to load using sideloaded app or enabling the Beta WSA Developer version with the Skills. FS Goff is working faithfully without a hitch on the Win 11 PC so far and I prefer it to my iPhone, of course. I've read a few posts randomly and it appears as though there may be some incompatibility that they have not addressed in the APK that is different between the Windows/Android and pure Android versions.

Maybe FS will address with in the coming months given the market opportunity to untether from the purely mobile platform.

I was able to fix FS Golf that kept closing upon luanch by going to the App Settings of FS Golf -> Storage -> Clear Data (much like how you can do it on Android apps) Then it launched fine, and I could get it working fine.

Also, I have tried choosing Front and Rear camera in the FS Golf settings and found that it does use the laptop's built-in front webcam though the image was flipped upside down. Haven't tried any USB webcam but will try that out also and report back later.
