  • Mevo+ metal dot

I realize the purpose of the dot is for the Mevo+ to read more accurate spin numbers, but why does it have to face the target? Is it so you won’t hit it with the club face and wear it out faster or are there other factors? Another thought, could a person put like 3 dots on a ball and not have to worry about putting the ball down perfectly each time. It does get to be a bit of a pain to do that, not to mention having to explain it to anyone is using it. Yes, I do know about the Titleist RCT ball.😁
    Thanks

I don't think it matters too much regards the dot although deffo so you dont hit it with the club. I did see a webinar saying the dot should face towards the screen but then seen others say works better when on top. As long as you don't hit it, don't think it makes a huge difference imo.
Also seen the CEO of FS say you should only put one dot on the ball so i would stick with that personally. Again seen others put 8 stickers on and say it works amazingly lol

I use the RCT for tourneys and Pinseeker, but for general play/practice I use dotted ball. I just make sure it's on top, makes the ball last much longer if not hitting wedges on the same spot of the ball continuously

The dot need to be forward or up to get the maximum rotation amount on the reflector. Think about if the reflector was pointed at a right angle to the target and you hit a shot with zero spin axis. The dot would never move since the ball is spinning perfectly backwards. Henry (owner of Flightscope) explains this in an interview about the Mevo Plus.

I suspect this is mostly what the dot position is about.

If you ever need more metallic dots, I use Aluminum Foil tape and a hole punch, are cutout small 1/4 x 1/4 squares.
They are basically the same material supplied from FlightScope.
Also, I get the same readings when using it outdoors without any dots on the range balls.
I also did a comparison indoors also and it really did not have any difference in reads.

This is a great Idea. I will do this when I run out of my stickers.
I re-use my dots when I switch out balls from wear and tear.

I know that for TM, the dot faces away in order to get the most accurate spin results (especially with lower spin driver shots). I believe the dot facing the radar does also create a strong reflection back before being hit and thus could also interfere with results ( a hot spot facing directly to the radar for a period of time).

Yes the dot could also come off, although, the best way to get the dot on the ball is when you first put the dot on the ball, place the ball down with the dot facing away from the screen and then hit the ball with a good swing from the driver. This gets the dot nicely onto the ball and the edges are much smoother.

Multiple dots on the ball also create a very strong reflection and thus three could be overkill or cause misreads. About 7 years ago, there was a suggestion that placing two dots on the ball side by side did help a lot for those that had troubles with spin (some people still do this as they find it continues to give them best results). The way that the ball is placed is such that the two dots are horizontal when placed down and not vertical). I have seen a few comments from TM that two dots should not be used over the last few years, but never with a reason as to why things changed.

With the latest rev 0.19 I found that most shots with a dot had italic spin numbers, especially driver. Using a bigger dot 1/2 " diameter improved it significantly. I also found that putting a Y shape like the one shown on RCT's and a Cross shape fixed it, but more of a pain to do.
I used Aluminium tape and also tried copper tape, but the Aluminium tape lasted longer.
Now using RCT's as it's much easier.
