So I got a xi Tour model from Flightscope while they are repairing my unit. I love the thing with my irons and wedges! I only have around 9 feet from ball to net, and maybe 10-12 feet from the unit to the ball, so I'm happy with it's accuracy with irons / wedges. I use the short indoor setting(I can't seem to get my club path to go right, but I'm sure that's a swing issue or setup issue) But distances and ball/club data seem very good to me overall. I got some of the silver stickers, and they seemed to help with spin numbers. Spin still seems low to me, but could definitely be a swing issue.
I am a single digit handicap, and I play outside often, so I have a good feel for my distances and where and how I'm striking it. For reference, I have a somewhat decent swing speed, but nothing crazy. When I'm warmed up and going after it fairly hard, at it I am hitting my 8 iron 170-180. Mishits are around 165-170ish. I am sure part of that is my mat reducing spin, and I tend to play a slight pull with my irons (trying to fix this, but it's my natural swing it seems)
My only complaint about the flightscope is when I start hitting long irons, hybrids, 3 woods, and driver. Today I went from hitting a 175 yard 8 iron, to hitting a few with my hybrid, 3 wood, and driver. Often my carry with all 3 was crazy low, anywhere from around 130-180 with maybe 10-15 yards of roll out. Even when I felt like I flushed it, they were carrying shorter than a well struck 8 iron. I was hitting hybrid and 3 wood off the deck, and I have been hitting them pretty low lately. I know I am giving up distance, but I like using them into the wind, and it has been playable for me. I hit a few drives after hitting hybrid/3 wood, and I was getting crazy low numbers again. I tee it low, and was getting 200 carry usually, with a few that I struck well going crazy short, like 140 carry. . I figured I should be 240+ carry based on my numbers on course. Then while puzzling it out, I drop kicked one a bit. It ended up carrying over 250, and was 40 yards longer than any of my other drives.
Is there something wrong with my setup? Am I just swinging different indoors compared to outdoors? Or does flightscope have some problems with low launch clubs or something? Honestly, it's not a huge deal to me, but I'd still like to know if I am doing something wrong. But if I can continue to get good data on my irons and wedges, I'm pretty happy. I thing I might try taking it to the range outdoors and hitting some there as well.
Any ideas? Anyone else have a similar experience? Am I just that much worse than I thought? haha
