  • Mevo+ spin accuracy?

Hey. Wondering how accurate folks find the Mevo+ at measuring spin with driver in short range mode with latest 0.22 firmware?

Mine consistently measures 3,000-3,600 on drives where the other numbers suggest it shouldn’t be. Smash factor in the 1.46-1.50 range, positive angle of attack of 2-3 degrees and spin loft matching or slightly below launch of 12-14 degrees. I don’t have pro package so don’t know face to path, but the shots are consistently showing up as straight to a draw. Even flat out hooks show spin at almost 3,000. I can’t quite fathom if it’s me (entirely possible) or if the machine is reading incorrectly. But I’m questioning the machine as I’ve never hit a 3,000 rpm hook in my life.

I also see no evidence of ballooning on the golf course, which I’d expect if I was really delivering 3,000-3,500 revs of spin.

Ballspeed is in the 155 range.

All thoughts and help appreciated. Is there perhaps a setup nuance or something I’m getting wrong?

Driver spin on short indoor has never been super accurate. It's a limitation of only having 13' of flight or less to measure a ball going +150mph. Ball speed, launch angles, AoA and the other metrics are fine

I have 11.5' of flight and find it works really well with 4i and down, pretty good with 2i, so-so with 4w and driver. Spin axis is occasionally suspicious since 0.22 but nothing game-breaking, since averages are what I'm primarily concerned with.

Even with the dots the spin numbers are not very good. I used one this past winter several times and saw very high driver spin as well. Funny since everything else I would call close enough. Carry distance seemed short some times even on nice hits, I wonder if it adjusts for the high spin??

After a point, higher backspin will result in shorter carry distances.

ID:	369934 I think it is accurate. I measure my Mevo+ against my XO regularly and it’s always within 300rpms. A couple millimeters low on the face really affects spin on the driver. I would try spraying the face and checking where you are actually striking it. Case and point my EYEXO showed 2850rpms on this shot and it’s pretty consistent across all shots.

This is interesting. How much flight distance do you have?

Right around 10 1/2 feet give or take a inch.

Preludesam can you hit some pull hooks and fades as well as push draw and fades. My big concern with firmware 0.22 is the spin axis on these shots. It doesn't match up with my shot shape and the GC2 indoors. Outdoors it's amazing.

I'm not good enough to play shots on command. Sorry

This was my attempt at a push draw with 18° hybrid. I normally don't hit this sort of shot on purpose so the launch was a bit suspicious.

Edit: second photo didn't upload the first time so I had to take another

Bubbs your spin is not being measured with this shot (Italicized Spin). I wonder if OP is having the same issue. Just so we are all on the same page if any data point is shown in italics it is being calculated and not measured so you may see a different shot shape since the spin axis may be suspect as well.

Good catch. I'm aware of the italicized numbers but didn't notice on the screen before I uploaded it. I was commenting about the dubious 0.22 spin axes earlier and inquiring about your flight distance because I get a few of these every session with anything longer than 5i.

Edit: I'll hit a few more this afternoon and some driver shots as well to see if I can get you a non-italicized reading. The space reads green on the interference app and there's no immediate sources of intermittent interference so it might have just missed the read. Difficult to tell with a sample size of one.

Can you hit that with a driver bubb? What about pull cut driver?

Out at the moment but I can try in a couple hours when I get back in, sure.

Thinking about this logically, a spin axis tilt in the double digits does affect lift on the ball. The ball can still be spinning at +3K but since the tilt is so pronounced it just curves more instead of gaining height. Think about it like the wings on an airplane. The airplane is still producing the same amount of lift at a specific speed but if you tilt the wing now the force is being split between up and left/right.

This. The axis is broken down into vector components so the "backspin" vector may be insufficient to allow the ball to rise effectively.

Was busy with some stuff the last couple days but I had a few minutes. Only got two for you that push drew instead of just being a simple push. I'll do driver next.

No dice on driver, couldn't get anything to draw and not have italic spin but only four shots before youngest woke up. I'll try again tonight.

Man, this thread died hard. People must be playing golf outside!

I prefer outdoor for golfing over simulator because of variable lies, real sand, green grains, etc. but if all that were possible indoors, I'd ditch it in a heartbeat.

Outside might as well be a giant room in my house with shitty climate control. Anything over 22C is too warm, so I don't really rev up until September through course closures in November. Some of my best rounds have been below 4C.

I suspect it will pick up in the winter. Hopefully they will tweak the latest firmware. They rolled my firmware back and it is definitely more accurate.

I'll contact them per your PM and ask them to roll mine back as well if you're having better comparisons to your GC2 with .20

        Confirmed: 0.20 firmware better. Lol

Yep. I hope they would roll it back and work from 0.20

Hey. Just wanted to say thank you to everyone who responded to this thread. To close the loop, I realized that I had enough room in my garden to use indoor mode instead of short indoor. Long story short, over multiple sessions, my driver spin has dropped by 500-600 revs on average. Good chance it had little to do with me swinging better and more to do with the radar being able to track the flight for longer.

The flight distance makes a massive difference.

For me, the interference app says the garage is clean through impact but I wonder if the noise from hollow-headed clubs (i.e. driver through 19° hybrid) in the enclosed, concrete-floored space interferes with the Doppler.

Outdoors I have fewer estimated spins and better shape consistency, even in short indoor mode. The shot above was a practice shot in short indoor with 12' of flight in the backyard.

Late response to your post. What does your garden setup look like? How much distance does your ball have between impact and your net/screen? Thanks!

Update: at 12' dead even flight distance, all the estimated numbers disappeared in 0.20 indoors. Bit of a moot point though since I managed to pick up a disturbingly cheap GC2 with FR1 this week.

May keep Mevo+ in the interim while I look for an HMT because I'll miss the AoA and smash numbers while working on specific drills.
