  • Awesome Golf or E6

Now that I've had the Mevo around for a year and winter is slowly approaching, I'm looking to have some simulator play over the winter. Because we're a household with zero Apple products (and no serious desire to change that) the included E6 version isn't free.

An iPad 9 is roughly $430 + taxes and previous generations are priced a bit high for the decrease in performance from older chipsets.

Awesome Golf is only $500 and has pretty great practice features, limited sim options and can be used across several platforms we already own.

If anybody who owns one (both would be great) could help to build a pro/con list for choosing between the two, it'd help my analysis paralysis greatly.

Edit: prices are in Loonies and not Washingtons, in case there was confusion.

GS Pro is likely the endgame, but with only casting to a TV at the moment and with no PC being close to running it without some serious upgrades, I'll put that off until later. My most current generation GPU is still using GDDR3 so that tells you how long ago my gaming days were.

I found a used 9th gen iPad near me for $240 (Washingtons). There was a write up a while back where a user posted their experience with e6 and iPads based on the processor. If I remember correctly he wrote that anything A12 and above would run it with no major issues.

That's good to know. The basis for what I could expect on each model was just guesswork from geekbench performance ratings.

I know the iOS version isn't all that pretty and I'm not concerned with that at all. Thinking more about load times and if a few of the larger courses might have some slideshow fps drops as the hardware gets taxed.

[ Looks around confused and raises his hand ] What’s a loonie?
Not sure if this will help you Bubb but I went with the iPad because that is what I had. I looked at other options but it was the simplest and most straight forward choice for me. Hitting into a net outdoors with the iPad connected to a t.v. was a piece of cake to hookup. It also allows me to bring just the iPad to the range if I don’t want to use my iPhone. I run both E-6 and FS golf but never looked at Awesome Golf. Good Luck with your decision. I will try to answer questions if you have any.

I use the new IPAD AIR with E6 it works great. I bought mine through the mobile provider Rogers (Canadian company). Paying for the tablet monthly, so I did not need to fork out all that cash for a new IPAD at once. They did not charge extra finance charge either. I think they just wanted you to have a sim card in the tablet that's the recurring revenue they are after.
I bought a non-apple USBC-HDMI connector to hook up to the projector and it works great.

The amount isn't as much of an issue, just that I'm uncertain how much use it will see anywhere other than in the simulator. I loathe the iOS GUI and can't see myself taking it around anywhere so it's an expense for a potentially temporary device, given that I'll stop using even my phone if/when we get proper PC Flightscope software.

All joking aside, I'm probably just going to do both. Awesome Golf is pretty great and I'm more likely to spend money on Pro package, projector or even a new launch monitor before anything else, so between practice and E6 play I should be set for a while.

You can have different folders for the apps. its the real Apple users that do not do it. drives me nuts see all the icons.

I'm looking to buy a new projector as when I practice i have the lights on for the camera. My current projector is $100 Amazon crap one works great when i only have the spot light on.

Good luck with it all man.

I would recommend that you buy the iPad, play the free version of e6 that comes with Mevo+.
That may be plenty for you to get your sim golf fix. Only 5-6 courses, but good courses.
Any iPad within the last few years should run the game just fine.
You can also install the FlightScope apps on it as well and use it as your main golf sim device hooked up to a projector via HDMI.

I have a gaming laptop with TGC2019 and Awesome Golf installed.
I also have an iPad with FS Golf, Awesome Golf, e6 (free) installed.

My 2 boys (early teens) only play Awesome Golf. (they are just hackers)
They really like the challenges, and the online leaderboard that it has to have something to aim for.
Sim golf (virtual golf) portion is very limited, and very basic tbh.I never played it after the first day.

I do all my practice with FS Golf, and play sim with TGC. (also do practice on TGC by just going into preview mode at a certain hole/shot)
I play AG when with my kids, and e6 on iOS never. lol

I already bought the lousy iPad.

Thanks for everybody's advice. Really helped the decision-making.
