Mevo+ spin for wedges way off on outdoor range

    Hi,

I just received my Mevo+ plus with pro package a week ago. I used to have the Mevo , rapsodo mlm and voice caddie sc300i over the years.

I bought the Mevo+ to get more accuracy and more data points for outdoor use.

Hitting off mats, outdoors, unemcumbered, my carry distances seem to work well, ball flight is recorded ok too, but my spin rates are completely off. Hitting off a mat, outdoors , and after trying various set up changes, I am getting 1300 rpm with swings for my 60 lob wedge (vs 9000 in the past), and 4000 for my 56 (vs 8-9000), 5000-6000 for my 7i (vs 7000).

While I could give the Mevo+ the benefit of the doubt for the 7i given range balls and matt (though not an issue with my older mevo and sc300i), my wedge numbers are just too far off. E.g. 60 lob, 63y carry, 0.1y lateral, 72mph club head spear, 78deg spin loft, -4.6 aoa, … spin 1573 !?

Defect device? Other reason? Did you face the same and solved it?

Thinking about returning it. Please help. Would love to love it.

I would expect the Mevo plus to be relatively accurate outdoors as the unit tracks the ball over a longer period. Make sure you have it set for outdoor and range ball in the setup. Can you test it against another launch monitor side by side? How does it work indoors with the RCT balls?

      Hi Bubba22,

I was lucky enough to have another mevo+ owner at the range and he set it up as he would yet got results that were off too. We even used a ball with a sticker outdoors and sacrificed a pro v1… still way too low. Just a lemon or did others see it too? (Note the other owner was very happy with his device)

        Jf, a few questions
In your first post you seem to indicate spin rate is to high but in your second post you the spin rate is to low, which is it?
        Have you called FS support?
What kind of mat are you hitting off?
Did you try putting dots on the range balls?
You say the other mevo+ numbers were off also, how did those numbers compare to your units numbers?
Have you tried hitting off turf to see what spin rates you get?

          Sorry if it was confusing.

spin numbers were way too low (less than 2000rpm), not too high

yes I did call. Here was the initial response:

          “Good day,

I have checked the spin readings and they seem to be correct. My name is xyz, and have done more testing on Flightscope spin than anyone else ever. You might not know this, but the lowest spins I have ever had was with a 60 degree, confirmed by high speed camera. Secondly, Just because its a Trakan, does't mean it measures spin better than a Mevo+. The Mevo+ units are very accurate.

          Kind Regards.“

Follow on responses were consistent with it. They said their engineers validated it. Not very satisfying as I know from my cool clubs footing that my spin is much higher , and another player at the range with another mevo+ used both and had very different numbers on his.

yes I did try with dots. It raised the numbers a bit but not what I would have expected. I also sacrificed sone good pro v1 ball. Spin a bit higher but still too low. Off the mat, numbers were a bit better (4000rpm range)

the only way I try to justify it is a) lemon device or b) my ball speed with my 60 degree is too low ( less than 75 mph) and vertical launch angle too high (45%+) to be long enough in the tracked window with enough rotations for it to have a good reading. The readings seem better / correct for mid irons and long irons.

will do last test this week-end. Compare with garmin r10 and gc3. Default plan is to return the mevo+

Sorry to hear you are having such a difficult time with your mevo+. Perhaps you are best off returning it.

How is that even possible to be so low ? Even a skulled shot would have more spin than that. Try to get your launch under 35 deg and see what the spin is. 8-10K should be easily in reach with a 60. More if you go after it.

I used a mevo+ indoors last winter and driver spin was typically double even with foil dots. I think somehow all the stars have to align for that unit to work to its best ability.

So, I’m increasingly that maybe the mevo+ wasn’t wrong. I compared it with a garmin r10 spin read and the numbers were actually super low too. With awesome golf. Within 2000-6000. At least the flight path of the mevo+ seemed more accurate than the r10.

Today on a grass driving range my spin with a 50 degree wedge was between 2300 and 9000. My 7 iron was on average spinning at 5900 (range balls)

                hmmm. Correct after all?

i heard back from the flightscope engineer abd they claimed that by analyzing my ball video the ball was indeed going for less than 2000 rpm with a 60 degree wedge …

i will give them the benefit of the doubt
