  • Mevo+ at an Outdoor Range

Since I have had my mevo+ I have pretty much used it in limited flight mode into a backyard net. I now find myself in Fla. with my unit and I am trying to used it in outdoor mode and seem to be having some inconsistent results. I keep reading/seeing that the mevo+ works extremely well in an outdoor setting but honestly my results are pretty disappointing. Shot shape does not appear to be all that accurate. Some shots are draws to the human eye but the FS app is showing a fade and some fades are showing as draws on the screen. I have been on the phone with Flightscope and in the process of sending feedback to see if something is amiss. As I await answers from FS support I thought I would turn to this forum for some additional assistance from those of you that use your unit at outdoor ranges. I am well versed in how to set the unit up as far as distance from unit to ball, target alignment, and hitting mat height adjustments. What seems to most confusing is the local weather conditions versus standard sea level. I have a data enabled iPad so I can get updated weather while being connected to the mevo+.

    1. Do I need turn on the wind function or does the FS app automatically add the wind in when set to outdoor mode?
    2. When the wind is on do I need to select the direction it’s coming from?
    3. The range I am at has full flight balls that are in excellent shape, so do I need to select range ball during setup?

I have put some of the outdoor shots into the Flightscope shot optimizer and the distances don’t seem to match up very well. The closest I get in the distance numbers matching is when the shot I took was set to a regular ball but on the optimizer I select range ball.
I am attaching 2 pictures, the first is the shot and the second is the optimizer, (yes I know my swing is slow but it’s a work in progress)
In the optimizer the 1st shot shows numbers with a regular ball and shot 2 is set to range ball. The wind at the time was 15mph but shows 11 in the optimizer so I think it would drop the distance a few yards.
I am very sorry because I know this post seems confusing but any and all help/responses are very much appreciated.

I will add that I am not expecting all the numbers to match up completely. I am just trying to get any confusion cleared up so I can get consistent reliable numbers.

      1. It is calculating for wind as you can see it's listed at the top of your first screen capture. If you are using a device iPad/iPhone thats connected to cell service it will grab all the environmental data automatically.
      2. Yes in most cases you need to tell it the direction the unit is pointing. You can do this on the setup screen for a new session.
      3. Unless you are using a ProV1 or equivalent premium ball you should always choose range ball outdoors. There is no classification for limited flight or full flight. Limited flight and full flight all have different cores compared to premium balls hence why we want to let the monitor know so it can more accurately predict the distance.
As far as the shape you have to remember it is only seeing the ball for about 50 meters after impact. A lot can happen in the last part of the shot. Wind (you had 15mph variables), imperfections in the cover, debris, out of round, and a ton of other factors can change the shape. It's designed to provide you 95% of what a full tee to ground tracking radar can provide. It's a great device for giving you excellent feedback on the club delivery and basic flight trajectory. If you want perfect full shot tracking something like the tour level experience it's going to cost 10K more.

Thanks for taking the time to respond Sam. What has me most confused is when I’m seeing the ball start right draw left and then on the screen it is showing something different. I will get back out tomorrow and give it another go and see what happens. I will take some shots with the range ball selected and the regular ball selected to see what if any difference is noticeable. Perhaps I will bring some found course balls and hit some of those as well. I just wish my swing was more dialed it so I could tell what a ball should be doing by the feel or the swing and strike, if that makes any sense. Once again, thanks for your help.

Mike, yes and no. I believe the shot shape issues may have been misreads of some sort but the wind issue is/was harder to figure out. Basically FS support just wanted more testing and feedback and I left Fla a week later so not much got accomplished.
