  • Mevo + Battery Drain while in use & charging. Loss of Fusion Tracking on 33% battery

    Hi all,
I'm still testing the mevo +, I really want it to work, but maybe it's got to go :-O
I've fully charged the mevo + overnight on a 3mtr usb extension cable to the original cable.
I was testing today with my new RCT balls and GSPro. The charging cable still plugged in.
I had to leave it running for 30mins while I went on a call.
When I returned the battery was 33% and it started missing shots. I noticed that the Fusion Tracking had become unticked in the GSPro connector, and wouldn't stay on when I ticked it.

I saw an old video video saying theres a certain order for leaving the power connected- is that still true. Does it use more power then the USB can supply?
    I've ordered a replacement battery 18650 3500mah.

    Thanks

I have dealt with a skittish Mevo all summer. Sudden drain. Connection problem. Suddenly won’t track shots. I finally sent it back to them for “Assessment”

Below I’ve cut and pasted a series of responses I’ve gotten because I questions their position it was all battery related.

    Hi Christopher,
I am the repair technician here in Orlando, and I have finished assessing your unit with the following issue: Failing Battery not holding charge. The repairs to resolve these issues are: Battery Replacement, Firmware Update, and a Recalibration of the entire unit. The standard cost for this repair service is $85.00 (plus taxes and shipping if applicable) and comes with a 90 day warranty for your peace of mind.

Please note that it is best to only charge the unit while it is powered off, using the provided charging block and cable, and not to let it overcharge once the LEDs indicate a full battery as this will shorten the lifespan of the battery. Another tip I would recommend is to make sure that you are charging the unit at least once a week, if not more often, to ensure the battery level doesn't drop below 0 charge. If the battery level falls too low, the unit may not be able to charge the battery as expected.

Our billing department will be sending you an invoice for the cost of repairs. Your unit is undergoing final shot testing and if it passes to our standards, we will ship it back to you once we have confirmed payment. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you experience any further issues with your unit.

    Hi Christopher,
There is no issue with plugging the unit in to power while you are in a session. The only issue comes when the unit is left on the charging power for extended periods of time such as days or weeks. This leads to the battery charge cells deteriorating and become less able to retain a charge and leads to the battery eventually shorting out or jumping from one power level to another. Our batteries come with a built in overcharge protection circuit but these are not fool-proof and can fail if exposed to power for prolonged periods of time. You can think of our units battery similarly to your phones battery, which will also deteriorate if left on charge for too long at a time and should not be overcharge to help preserve it. Our batteries are expected to last up to 2 years or 500 charge cycles, whichever comes first, before needing a replacement. So to answer your original question, there is no problem with using the external power during a session, just be sure to unplug the unit from power if the LED's indicate a full charge.

    Hi Christopher,

The longest the unit should be left on a charger is about 6 hours as this is the longest it should take to charge up to 100%. The unit was shot tested twice using our testing iPad and our shot testers did not report any connection issues during usage. The issues you were experiencing could have been one that was due to the outdated Firmware that was installed on the unit. I have since updated the unit to the latest firmware and found no issues during my diagnostics testing with connection.

If you still experience this type of issue once you get the unit back, contact our support team again and they will try to narrow down the potential cause of the issue further. In the worst case, if the unit is not functioning as expected and the support team is unable to resolve the issue then we would issue you a Return label to send the unit back in for further assessment and testing at no further cost to you. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you experience any further issues as the unit comes with a 90 day warranty from the date of receipt.

Dontt know if that’s helpful or not… I’ve had mine back fr a couple weeks now and it’s behaving normally.

Thanks for the update. I bought a replacement 18650 Protected Battery 3500mah. Only £11. After fully charging it, the Mevo was still showing battery drain in use while connected to a charger. I read somewhere not to use a USB extension cable. I tried a power extension to move the 3.2a USB charger closer and it works! The Mevo now stays at 100% while plugged in practicing- just used the short USB cable to the unit! I now need to install a power socket nearby- Easy fix.
The loss of Fusion tracking might be because the MEVO Plus had too much tilt. I connected to the FS app, and it showed too much tilt (but GSPro didn't).
I still need to do more testing. Unfortunately the Mevo has to sit right next to the garage access door and creates a trip hazard if you don't know its there. My ideal solution would be an optical overhead LM- but they are £££.

On a side note I think the RCT balls are essential for getting good spin readings indoors

I use the recommended external Anker batter pack charger & I noticed that there is a correct order to plug it in for the Mevo+ to draw off the Anker battery. You use the USB cable that came with the Mevo+ and plug it into the Anker before plugging it into the Mevo+. This order seems to allow the Mevo+ to draw off the battery pack supply instead of its own battery. I also do this exact order before powering the Mevo+ on.
