  • Flightscope Optimizer Question

In the attached photo are 2 identical shots but one with a range ball and one with a standard type ball. Why is the the carry distance with the range ball 20 yards longer then the standard ball. I would have thought it would be the other way around. Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

not identical at all, look at HLA for one....

Horizontal launch angle is 0 in both shots and vertical launch angle is 11 in both shots and spin axis is 0 as well.

It's just an attempt to normalize something so variable that it's nearly impossible. Henry (CEO) goes over these issues in a couple meetings and Q&As. He flat out stated that's it's almost impossible to give us an accurate estimates on what a premium ball would do when using a range ball. He gave a ton of reasons behind it like being old, worn off dimples, limited flight, different compression ratios, different friction coefficients, and the list goes on.

This has been proven by Ping and Ball Namic. There is a reason that pros do not test golf balls indoors. A ball that spins more can fly lower and one that spins less can fly higher. Take the Foresights flight algorithm for example. No matter what ball you use with a Foresight LM you are going to the flight characteristics of a ProV1. Just because a ProV1 has a peak height of 80ft at a specific Ball Speed, VLA, and Spin it does not mean a Sixon Z-Star is going to be the same.

Thanks for the response Sam, I agree with you on the to many variables. Just trying to figure out what settings are the most reliable to use. All I have ever heard about range balls is that they fly a shorter distance than regular balls and the optimizer shows the complete opposite. I put in a call to Flightscope and the rep on the phone agreed and he said that the higher ups are looking into it, (what ever that means) One of the things I wonder is that if the same algorithm that is used in the optimizer, is used in the mevo+ software then how accurate can that be?
