Golf ball on tee

FIrst off, I plan on calling Foresight later today but I figured I'd throw this out because sometimes this forum has the answers. I've had my GC2 for almost 3 years now and I'm running into an issue that I've been dealing with for a long time and finally I need to find out the fix. When the golf ball is on the mat... I have no problems getting a green light. As soon as I put the ball on the tee, I can't get a green light unless I put my hand (or something similar) behind the ball. It's almost like I have to change "the background" behind the golf ball for the GC2 to lock in to get a green light.

The part that baffles me is I can go to Dick's or Golfsmith (before they closed) and put the ball on the tee and get a green light every time. I don't understand why the difference. My background is similar to most people. Just black curtains behind. Any ideas?

I've had similar issues before. If I tee the ball up, closer than the midpoint of the capture area (towards the GC2, not left/right), I sometimes get the red light, ball not placed within hitting zone issue. When this happens, if I look on the on-board screen, the ball image is actually jumping back and forth between a spot in the hitting zone and out.

I then take my driver and place it right in front of the camera on the left (almost blocking it out temporarily) and the light goes green.

If I place my tee such that it is further away from the GC2, further than the midpoint of the capture zone, I don't get this issue.

It's almost as if it's confused if the ball is on the tee, or it is too close to the unit, and can't work out the depth difference of the ball vs the hitting surface.

Once I realized this I just put my tee in the same spot that works and I've never run into it again since.

Not a big deal to me, since the capture zone is so large.

I use a fixed tee position so I have to set my unit in a spot that the tee is out of the way for all other shots. Maybe I'll just have to move it to the front or back of the capture area and see if that helps.

I find the gc2 works better on something. The metal cradle has it an inch above ground. Try putting it on a one inch book and see if that helps. Mine sits permanently like that.

if you call Foresight they'll tell you you need the quad. Lol

Yeah I already have mine raised to the same height as the hitting mat.

I too have issues with the green light not coming on but it is only when the ball is on a tee and nearly dead center of the hitting area. I have also noticed that the camera seems to loose the lock on the ball more often when in this position, by loosing the lock I mean it will turn green and when I start my back swing it will turn red for a split second and go back to green. The problem is if I don't see it in time to stop my swing or get back to the ball before it re-arms it will not capture the shot. To fix this issue I have started teeing the ball an inch or two left or right from center of the hitting area.

Tried raising it an inch. Tried moving it left or right in the capture area. No luck. If I take it off the tee... boom green light. I'm baffled.

But have you tried different tees? Different color tees?

Have you checked that your shoes, socks or pant leg aren't causing the problem?

Could it be the mat? Maybe throw a black towel over the mat and see if that helps.

Do you have any lights shining on the ball?

Maybe take it to Dicks or at least outside to see if it is your environment?

Take it out of any protective cases and test?

Be interesting to hear what foresight sayS and what the problem turns out to be.

Haven't tried different tees as I use one that is in a fixed position that can be raised up or down to desired height. Did not check any apparel that I might be wearing that would potentially cause this issue. Could it be the mat? Maybe I guess... it's the one from allturfmats that others use so I doubt it. Lighting is not the issue as it happens in various conditions. Now... it's interesting that you mentioned the protective case because I did think of that earlier this evening.

Update - So I went out to my golf room to try to decipher the issue. Tried again to change the height of the GC2 compared to the mat. Tried both raising and lowering it to no avail. Then, out of the blue... it started to work without having to put my hand behind the ball. I don't know what is different.. but it's working. I did open and close the GC2 - and maybe it wasn't open "all the way" in the upright position. But I tried to lower it just a little and couldn't replicate the problem. It's working now but I really don't know why!! It's been like this for a long, long time and I just would put my hand behind the ball and it would work. But tonight it worked... weird. Hope it lasts.
