  • True cost of a GC2

Looking into a GC2 or ES16....trying to figure out how much these things actually cost. Please correct me where I'm wrong too.

All I want to use the gc2 for is practice. I don't have room to hit driver, so I won't need the full sim packages anyways. I just want all the data read outs and a driving range type environment (hit at a green, etc).

I believe this requires I purchase the FR1 software, yes? Is there any way I can do my practicing w/o the software?

If I were to buy a used gc2, what additional fees would be involved? Would I have to pay some transfer fee, and purchase the fr1 software? I've read something about a $1,000 transfer fee, and then I need to buy the FR1 software for $1800?? A new GC2 + shield + fr1 is about $8,100...while a refurbished GC2 + fr1 is about $7,100.....so that means I need to find a used GC2 for about $4.2k or less to even save money over the refurbished option? And that wouldn't include the support nor warranty.

Please correct me where I'm wrong and explain it better. Thanks guys

In Nov foresight quoted me $7,750 for gc2 (6250), fr1 (1500), and protective case (nc). Would've been $8,750 for all above but with FSX. I ended up with a used gc2 & fr1 from a closed golf smith $5k delivered after foresight looked it over and the transfer fee. Foresight since discontinued FR1 and charge $500 transfer on private sales which makes their refurbished units more attractive unless Bluetooth is removed.

Thanks for the reply. How does the software work during a transfer? Does the 500 fee to foresight include transfer of whatever software that owner had? Or is the 500$ just to transfer ownership and then I have to buy the software for full price?

      Thanks so much, appreciate it.

Transfer fee gets the gc2 unit registered into your name so you can get tech support and order replacement flashes, etc. Doesn't need to be done right away.

FR1 software is not bad - I like it. Might find it used on eBay. But imo the $ would be better spent on TGC if having to choose. My unit happened to come with it. Bought TGC separately.

You can often pickup a used gc2 with FR1 and dongle for around 4k on this forum or eBay. There is no need to pay the transfer fee unless there is a problem with the unit. Therefore you'd have everything you need for around 4k. You'd have 4.5k in it if you need to transfer it. I think the price of used units will come down with the new release of the GC Quad.

On another note... I think the ES16 is also a great option. I have hit balls on it and liked it. It will also get better over time as firmware and software improve.

Awesome thanks for the reply. Thank you brock as well.

So I can buy the fr1 software used without issue? I won't need to pay some fee for transfer or additional serial # to foresight? That is very intriguing.

Es16 does look cool but seems to have a lot of issues still and less accurate than gc2. I'm torn between the two.

It was my understanding that tgc is mainly for full course simulation mode right? I'd only be using this for practice on a driving range type setting as I'm limited to irons only (low ceilings, no driver). I've heard fr1 is good for practice, so just assumed that was the route I'd go? Fill me in if I'm wrong, which I assume I am.

The longest club I can hit is a hybrid in my sim room, I would still go for TGC over range only software every day of the week. You can put a boost % setting on the driver club in TGC, so you hit a 4 iron for example but TGC thinks it's a driver and adds X% distance. In my opinion my game has got better from playing TGC rather than the range software, TGC you are playing different shots whereas on the range I'm guilty of pummelling 20 7 irons in a row which doesn't really help ones game.. there are also tons of ranges on TGC, shorter courses, 9 hole courses, and par 3 courses.

For practice i think FR1 is hard to beat. I use it all the time. I only play rounds when i have friends over. But then i'm a range rat and love to practice. If you get FR1 make sure you get at least one course so you can practice on the course and not just the range. You can drop the ball anywhere on the course and just keep hitting the same shot over and over again.
I am still planning on getting TGC for playing rounds.

I just figured out the options settings in FR1 this weekend and adjusted it to fill my whole screen (I first thought it only came in 800x600 low def. haha). The graphics are better than I thought. Still don't know how to adjust position on the 350+ yard driving range for practice. To answer your question though you just need the dongle and disc to install and use it. Nothing from foresight that I recall. I like that I can count on FR1 if I'm have trouble cranking TGC due to a Bluetooth or internet issue on my computer. Still prefer TGC. Simplicity of GC2 tech and available deals makes it hard to beat imo. Good luck!

Thanks for the continued replies....ao the 'dongle' is some USB drive or something that tells the pc that the software is legit? Makes sense.

So if I find a used gc2 with fr1 and dongle, there is no other cost for me, right? No subscriptions, transfer fee, etc?

yes that is correct the dongle is a security key to activate the FR1

Your biggest issue will be finding a decently priced used GC2

You right click on the minimap on the desired position and it will move you there. Maybe you have to choose to "show minimap" if you don't see it.
