  • FSX frame drops/lag

Just interested in knowing if anyone is having any issues with lag/frame drops with FSX. PC specs are:-

    I7 4770
    Geforce 960 GTX 4gb
    16 Gb ram

And I have plenty of spare hard drive space and my projector is only running 1024 x 768. I only notice frame drops on courses with a large area of tree's like Dallas National. I'm wondering if a video upgrade would fix this? Any thoughts?

My thoughts are that is pretty much the FSX software as this point. The only thing that could minimize this would definitely be the video card. A Geforce 1060 or above would be the only thing that would minimize this, otherwise your specs are good. Couldn't guarantee that an upgraded video card will definitely improve this though as I think it is just FSX software at this point.

I have a 1070 card and never once had lag on any courses with settings on max, for what its worth. I don't have Dallas National so not sure if it's more demanding than the 6 I've got.

Forbin the video card was the only thing I thought might hold it back too. Brock one of the courses I received the update lags as well (can't remember which one). I'd imagine you'll have that course so maybe a higher spec card would fix it.

I'm playing with an i5 processor, 16gb of RAM and a GTX1070 - and have never had any lag in FSX.
Again - I've never played Dallas National, but I have played 15 other courses.

Some courses where I experience lag are Doral, Flint Hills, & Pelican Hill. Foresight took them down for a while and I believe have them back up because they were known to have issues. I did upgrade from a 960 with 2GB dedicated Ram to a 1060 with 6GB and it definitely has improved stability. Don't notice Lag much at all anymore......maybe a small stutter here or there. If it is really prevalent for you, then yes an upgraded video card is pretty much the only solution.
