  • GC2 shot read issues

    Hi all,

I've had my GC2 for a couple months now and have been loving playing TGC with friends in the garage. Unfortunately, a couple weeks ago it stopped reading shots while we were in the middle of a round. I've seen the occasional missed shot with the dashes shown on the shot data, but now it doesn't even leave the ball locator screen. It will lock onto the ball and show it picks it up in the hitting area, but when you hit the ball, it just acts like you picked the ball up instead of showing any shot data. I've tried it with every club from driver to putter and it won't pick up anything. I thought it was just a burnt out flash, but I've replaced it and still no luck. I've confirmed the flash is going off. I bought the unit used and don't want to pay the transfer fee for support from Foresight unless I absolutely have to. Has anybody else here ran into an issue similar to this? I've added a link to a video of the issue as well. Thanks for any help!

You need a new flash ...

I've replaced it twice today figuring that was the issue. Still no luck. The flash is firing when I hit the ball.

Are you certain there's nothing reflective thats getting in the way and stopping gc2 from seeing the ball?

          1. Reload the GC2 operating firmware. The latest version is available on the Foresight website (4.0.0.15). Also run the tilt calibration software after being certain the unit is PERFECTLY LEVEL

          2. Hit balls without connecting to TGC

          3. If it works go to 4. If not cough up the 500 and send to Foresight for repair.

          4. Connect to TGC. If it works be happy, if not I have no idea since I don't use TGC..

So I'm not sure what changed, but set it up exactly as I did yesterday and it's working all of a sudden. Regardless, I'm not going to complain. Thanks to everyone for the input!

I've discovered that if I take a black magic marker, and blackout the nozzle of my wedges GC2 no longer misses a single shot.

it use to be 5-10 wedges per round were missed (especially my 60 deg). It's not missed a single shot in 10 rounds now..... pretty conclusive.

The flash is apparently reflecting off of the hozzle and blinding the Gc2

I am having this issue now. Started last night, got home and turned it on hoping it would be ok. It Locates balls, then swing and like exactly was said above it just acts like a ball is t there. My son said it is not flashing during swings. I can change flash, but it was fine and this happened mid round last night and now it is like it doesn't know to flash and capture the shot.

it literally doesn't move, I play same clubs, same light, so nothing weird or reflecting or anything different than before. Was the answer above that you just turned it on again and it was fine? I can try changing the flash for fun, but I am thinking it is not the flash and the op has the same thing I am seeing and said that wasn't it.

also I play on the foresight courses so it isn't a TGC interface thing.

any help would be awesome, thanks.

If it isn't flashing then your flash most likely burned out. I would start by replacing it. The OP said his was flashing but it still wasn't reading. I believe he ended up reinstalling the firmware to fix his issue

Sorry I never posted what I figured out on this. I had to sell my GC2 to pay for my wedding shortly after this and haven't logged on in months. What I ended up figuring out was that on the flash that was installed, the bulb wasn't centered in its housing so it wasn't flashing as bright as it should. I centered the bulb and never had any problems afterward. Hoping to pick up another GC2 if my work bonus is decent this year!

Switched to an old flash and same thing. I am going to hit you up about a flash and go from there. Thanks!

What would cause a gc2 to give really wild readings for direction? I played today and in about 7 shots (several of them little 10-15yd chips) it said the ball went between 8-15 degrees right when in reality the ball went pretty much exactly straight (within a degree or two).

Try different clubs and balls. Trial and error. I’ve heard of hosel markings causing issues.

I'm having this problem with by gc2. It seems to pick up the ball 1 in 3 times and never with a driver. I cannot figure it out. Cannot be the flash because it works sometimes. How would I reinstall firmware to the gc2? Or factory reset the devise?

Mine seems to be missing more often lately. It had a super flash, which I just replaced with Andy's. Seems to miss most often using my R11 4 wood off my mat which has a white head. Latest firmware. I can't seem to figure out why it's missing more often lately. I've never reinstalled drivers or firmware before either. I'd be interested in knowing the correct process.

I should note that the flash is not firing when it misses the shot

Is the light changing from green to red right before you hit? Maybe the white club head is confusing it and it isn't locked onto the ball when you are hitting so it doesn't think a shot is getting hit

Light is green. I have a metal case, maybe something to do with it? I lowered it a 1/4". Seems better but I haven't thoroughly tested it yet. If I chunk an iron pretty bad it will miss too. The 4 wood will miss on a good shot, so not convinced of the mat being the issue. Keep you updated

I seen on another post something about heat sources bothering a gc2. I'm running in floor heat. Could this be a possibility?

No. The heating source referenced was a IR radiant heater directly across from the GC2. It wasn't the heat it was the IR emissions.
