GC2 reading half distances - Firmware?

I have a new (to me anyways) GC2 here and have seen output on the screen of the GC2 and in the software.

However, the outputs are off, a lot. EG my PW despite giving it a good 75% whack is only registering at 40 yds. It seems to be atleast half off.

I thought it was a firmware issue as I'm running 3.1 so I tried to download 4.0.15 from the website but when I try to plug power in and the USB connection, it won't update.

Any of these problems sound familar?

Try this firmware version. I am using it and works perfectly. Not sure if it matters, but make sure you are using the right side of the sensor pad for right handers and left side for left handers.

Be sure nothing on your club or shoes is reflective that can give a misread. If you have a spare flash, switch it out and see if it makes a difference.

Another thing about the firmware you are trying to install, is you have to download the current driver also to get the gc2 to connect.

Thanks guys. As of right now, I cannot update the firmware although I have tried from 2 different PC's with 2 different USB cables. I think my USB port is message up. Which sucks because I live overseas and bought it second hand.

I've downloaded the GC2 driver from their website onto a windows 7 laptop and a windows 8.1 desktop. No go.

Was hoping to get some practice in but it's unusable at the moment.

After testing with firmware 3.5.1, I feel like the distance is still short.

I get the same results whether using ProTee or looking at the screen.

Not sure what to do next. Calibration?


I'll have some buddies over this weekend that are much better golfers than me so i'll get their take on the accuracy of the setup.

How do you expect to get correct distances with Almost golf balls? A GC2 uses ball speed, launch angle, azimuth and spin to compute the distance. Using anything but a real golf ball is useless if you want real carry numbers.

Many of the threads I saw say that the shorter clubs the almost golf galls are 10% off or so. However, mine seems much more than that. Maybe their is some psychosomatic swing differences between hitting indoors knowing my room isn't quite done so not wanted to hit real balls.

I guess a side question is once I have the ceiling proteced and the side walls (mine are concrete), wondering how to protect bounce back on my concrete floor.

Soft rug. You can also use indoor/outdoor carpet. The main thing is to have your screen/net not too tight so it does not act like a trampoline.

I have some really cheap indoor/outdoor green carpet which has a thin rubber backing. The only time a ball makes it back to the hitting mat (about 9 feet) is with a sand or gap wedge that hits almost on the top of the screen.

Thanks. I'll take a look to see what I can find. Is your carpet the same level as your hitting pad? Does it need to me? If it does, that is going to cost me much more in the area of time. If it's simple green carpet, I can probably find something. Thanks !

Wait, your using almost golf balls? Try real ones?

also, post all the numbers on the gc2 screen, what club you're hitting and what the Protee post shot screen says and I'll let you know what the problem is. Your images are impossible to read.

Will do as soon as I secure the side and top mesh/curtains to prevent direct wall contact or EMT contact.

yep I agree with mthunt

I let people I don't trust in my sim hit almost golf balls and the spin is way more but they don't care and have fun
hit some almost golf balls outside and see if it matches what you expect

anyways get where you can hit real balls you'll be much closer to what you expect

Yes sir! Use a real golf ball! I am currently hitting into my Net Return off my 5'x5' Real Feel Country Elite mat at the moment. Set up is in my garage shop with cement floors and I do not have a rug or carpet on it. I actually like the ball returning back to me. Drops pretty soft onto the concrete floor and rolls right back. I do plan on getting a projector and screen later on when my garage shop is finished, but as long as the numbers are spitting out correctly, that's all I care about.

Never actually heard of these Almost golf balls...I had to google it haha

Yeah, I agree with the numbers output. I just made the (incorrect) assumption that the almost golf balls would provide the almost similar numbers.

That said, be careful when you do get a net as you don't want those golf balls bouncing on cement, getting scratch up and then hitting your screen as it'll tear it.
