I am new to the simulator world and have been looking on this site and it seems yall might have some answers. I am looking at getting a gc2 unit from Foresight. My setup will be outside so I will not have access to the internet when it is being played so it will be used offline. I have read mixed reviews on the FSX software. I am looking to get my golf game better with practice and skill competitions but also I want to play some courses. I have read great things about TGC but I am not sure how to make that work with the gc2. So with that said is it best to just go with the FSX sofware since I won't be able to play online or is TGC still worth the purchase. I plan on building a sim room eventually and will have access to the internet. Thanks for the help.

Question on GC2 with TGC

If you are buying a new unit from Foresight and have to buy FSX, I would hold off on buying TGC until you have access to the internet. TGC is awesome but without internet you can only play a handful of courses and can't do the online tournaments. TGC2 is also going to be coming out in around 6 months. If you are planning on buying one of their refurbished ones without any software, then TGC is probably the least expensive way to play courses, even though it won't be a huge selection. There also aren't any sort of skill competitions in TGC.

I have FSX and i really enjoy it for working on my game either on the courses they give you (which are ok) or just at the range. It also works great in the background so you can use an overlay to watch tv or youtube in the corner of your screen (think pip on regular tv remotes) while working on your game. I can honestly say i have improved because of FSX at working the ball both ways and distance control. At the moment i cannot confirm but i'm pretty sure it will let you play without internet.
TGC is a completely different program for a different purpose. It does one thing and one thing well which is simulating golf on thousands of courses but if you don't have internet don't bother as andygg said. It is all but required for TGC. Just wait for when you get internet and get tgc2.

My version of FSX uses internet to validate ownership on every start. FS might have a dongle version like with FR1 so it can be played without internet. I'd definitely clarify or wifi extend service to your hitting area. It's more enjoyable with internet and necessary if you want to review your shots/rounds on FSX live after.

I spoke to Foresight and they said they would send me a dongle with the software on it. They said I would have access to everything but on-line play, longest drive and closest to the pin. With the FSX software does it limit you to how many people can play if your off-line.
