  • GCQ - Protee / Bluetooth knowledge and/or expectations

    Hi Everyone,

What's the word and expectations for when Foresight do enable the Bluetooth on the GC Quad. Is it expected that we will be able to use an interface software and hence use third party software, ie TGC?

My thoughts are that they are perhaps testing the market and consumer feedback prior to making a decision. If they had made the decision already to never allow third party software, I would have thought that they could quite easily have enabled the Bluetooth with encrypted data by now.

I know that FSX software cops alot of critiques, from myself included, however is there any other software other than E6 for which you can do such good group competitions, ie nearest to the pin and longest drive?

I haven’t heard anything about GC Quad opening up Bluetooth yet.

Perfect Golf built in does not have closest to the pin stuff by default but through the third party tour site that cost $20 per season, they offer weekly closest to the pin competition, occasionally Long drive ( not as popular as CTP). There are also combines with leader boards. They offer multiplayer team tournaments (alt shot, hazard, scramble, stableford).

built in, PG offers scramble (4 ball and 2 ball), Greensome, alt shot, hazard golf and a few others. Not quite as much as E6 but most of them.

I think The Golf Club is working on these features too. A few months ago Protee had a thread where they asked what “game improvement” features we wanted add to sim and a lot of them were combine and CTP features. My guess is that it will be included when they release TGC2. They probably are focusing development efforts on next version vs current version at the moment.

Pessimism or factual? My simulator system is portable and without wifi/internet access, and I like to keep things as wireless as possible. It seems that everything is moving towards requiring internet access. Easier to track, monitor, enforce licences etc I suppose.

factual and you are correct on the wifi for the GCQ. The bluetooth was a back up for the wifi if it did not work as anticipated.

Thanks for the information. I'm guessing that there will be a strong demand for many years to come for the GC2 considering a combination of the software options, bluetooth and price difference. Let's hope that Foresight keep supporting it. Perhaps they will find that it is in their interest to embrace the ability to use their hardware with highly demanded software.

Here's a question for you considering I've never seen a decisive answer to this, is there any particular reason that no one has been able to adapt an interface software to the GC2 using the USB comms rather than Bluetooth. One would expect that it is the same data being transmitted.

honestly i think that gc2 will be around for a long time foresight has done a great job on this launch monitor and discontinuing this would do damage to there yearly revenue

I think it's really sad that Foresight seems determined to prevent GCQuad owners from using that device with the most popular golf simulator software packages. From the decision to keep interoperability shut I can infer that they know that their FSX sim cannot compete head to head with other software. Non-support would be understandable, but that's the only reason I can think of for them to purposefully block communications channels.

why does protee not pull the data from the CSV file from the FSX directory?
if you activate export to csv in FSX you have all data after a shot...

With delay to shot representation on screen?

Perhaps i will instruct a software development company for the GCQuad-tool.

If you have GCQuad and FSX you have to start a round or go to drive range/practise mode.
In Settings you only have to activate Export to CSV.
Then start the GCQuad-tool and open TGC and protee.

The tool is waiting for new data in the CSV file.
After a shot is done, the tool pulls the data from the CSV and converts the data to the protee format
and send the new data to the protee golf interface SDK.
The delay is about 2 seconds.

                      Somebody interested?
If we put together it will be cheap :-)

You’d be better off creating an interface between ProTee Interface and the Quad’s WiFi.

A little bird told me that GCQ already works with TGC.

I would like to hear more about this. Is there a workaround to get a GCQ to work with TGC?

                        • #14
Protee doesnt know something about it.

i instructed a company developing the tool .. its working with GCQuad and TGC2019.
Not cheap but the solution is working fine for the moment :-)

After the weekend i can upload a video.

After some fixes the tool is working fine with GC2+HMT because FSX sends the data to the CSV file immediately after the shot.
But if you connect a GCQuad to FSX the data sends after the ball is rolled out on the Foresight Range ...
So if you a do a 300 yard drive you have to wait about 15 seconds after the shot information is sent to the CSV file.
But only with the GCQuad :-/

                            I did some further tests:
                            - Windows FSX WLAN Sniffer: shot data is encoded
                            - Windows FSX USB Sniffer: shot data is encoded
                            - Android FSX App Sniffer: shot data are in clear text visible - its a json array
-> The app sniffer should write all data to a logfile on the android device -> its possible to read the log file from the sniffer and send the data to Protee interface.
